Exactly what I was looking for
This book is exactly what I was looking for to use for a school project. The book arrived in great condition. The edges were a little worn, though. The book contains the A-text version of Marlowe's Doctor Faustus along with a very interesting introduction by editor David Wootton. It also contains The English Faust Book. This was a very interesting read and definitely worth the money.

Great version
How can one not give 5 stars to Marlowe's classic play? But what makes this edition great is the inclusion of the English Faust Book; an English version of the prose German account of the Faust legend. Here you will find many more details of the story that Marlowe leaves out. Neat grisly stuff!

Two books on Dr Faustus for the price of one!
It is just so convenient to have both the 1604 A-text of Marlowe's Dr.Faustus bound with The English Faust Book. It is in that sense an ideal undergraduate text enabling students to make proper comparisons with a source and thereby to see how Marlowe has rendered the narrative into dramatic form. And anyway the Faust Book is great fun in itself. The editorial material, introduction and notes are also thorough and valuable though in part they might be said to favour someone who has existing knowledge of other editions and writings on Marlowe. And finally, for price, it is perfectly accessible. So thank you to David Wootton and the Hackett Publishing Company for providing such usable materials.

good choice for college students
Excellent price, helpful footnotes, detailed introduction, and the inclusion of the English Faust Book make this a great choice for college students working on the Faust myth or Christopher Marlowe's works. If you're reading it for the Faust tale, be sure to read Goethe's for comparison. Then pick up Thomas Mann's Doctor Faustus : The Life of the German Composer Adrian Leverkuhn As Told by a Friend.

Hackett rules!
Well, this is the nuts. Brilliantly, and sometimes amusingly edited, with excellent and thoroughly illuminating suggestions for further reading, (all of which I've gratefully chased up), and really insightful suggestions of what exactly we 'have' in Marlowe's A text. The inclusion of the whole of the English Faust book (in itself a classic) is inspired, as it seems, in hindsight, highly unlikely that any one could perceive Marlowe's intent in his play without ascertaining which elements of the primary source material he chose to ommit. It's simply t he most useful and accessible edition of one of the most influential plays of all time.

There were many good ones around already for him to work with and ...
Wootton's introduction is fairly interesting but there is simplytoo much speculation about the influences on Marlowe's drama. His is a traditional reading and why he then produces his own editionof the A-text is never clarified. There were many good onesaround already for him to work with and his does not contributeany new findings that changes what has already been printed.
