Will Marmite Capture American Taste Buds?
This is my first experience with Marmite. I purchased it (and the Australian Vegemite) out of simple curiosity, plus B vitamin contact. Thankfully, I knew not to spread too thick so was not surprised by the strong savory flavor. I had read up on the history and uses of the various yeast extracts and was interested to see if they would shock my American taste buds, and they did! It is said to be an acquired taste, but so far so good! I can see how the stuff can be addictive! I have been using as a condiment on sandwiches and small amounts to add complex flavor in soup recipes. Have heard that this product is a kitchen staple in the UK and quite inexpensive there, but highly overpriced by sellers on Amazon to US consumers, so I probably paid too much for the yeast extract experience! The other drawback is that it is very salty so I better slow down and not try it on everything!

BEWARE - nationality ORIGIN may be a ISSUE
As others said this is an acquired taste, very salty, I can see me using it in place of salt when cooking. Nice way to take some Vit B.I wish the Cat liked it too, but she is russian blue NOT a british short hair and she won't even come close to it, let alone lick it..never in my wildest dreams have I imagined this will be an issue. We are multicultural household, so I do not know from where she got her views....? She is only 4 mo old and does not go out much....True, few times at the vet in the past months, and unsupervised too for some time, but she never made any friends when there, as far as I know. Must be in the DNA, wish I could return her but her mom is a stray, unloaded her in our garden and disappeared, I guess we are stuck with her now....

All I can say is that it's good for you and I ate it on a rice ...
I had never had this stuff before. I got it in an effort to go vegan or vegetarian and it was part of my pantry flip. I do believe it's an acquired taste! All I can say is that it's good for you and I ate it on a rice cake once. I'm eating meat again.

Love it or loathe it You'll never forget it
The tastiest substance in the world. It's only competitors are Australia's Vegemite, New Zealand's Marmite and South Africa's Marmite. This is the UK's Marmite which to me tastes exactly the same as Ireland's Marmite. NZ's and SA's Marmite are each delicious, but very different from this; they're a bit sweeter, though in different ways. Australia's Vegemite, while still a yeast extract and sheer heaven in and of itself, is immediately different in taste, texture and colour. This UK Marmite is the one that started it all and is the mother of all 'mites. Be warned: It's either loved or loathed. There is no middle ground about Marmite. I am so thankful I fall in to the "love and adore" category. Try it on buttered toast at first; you may be hooked. I'm about to ice a cake with it.

Not the same as Vitam R available in Germany
Many years ago, Vitam R was available on Amazon US, it was the exact same product I was used to in Germany. It seems that is no longer is and I was hoping that this product was an alternative. IT IS NOT. This product looks like it but tastes horrible, is bitter and I would never use it as a bread spread as the various varieties of Vitam R can be. Not sure what use I might find for it, but definitely not the use I intended it for as the flavor is just horrible.
