No. A plastic scoop will probably break, and the handle on the stainless steel scoop is not too cold to handle.

From the video you can see that it's about 3/4 inch at the very tip widening to 1 3/4 inch about one inch from the tip.

What grade of stainless steel is this made from? 1808 or 1810?

I haven't had it long enough to give a definitive answer, but I would guess not since it's made of high-quality, polished stainless steel.
