The source
The techniques explained is this book are explained in numerous other books and sites on the internet but none I feel do it as well in such a simple way. It is correct that these methods are dated and with the changes in metal and methods used in automobile construction this is no longer a definitive guide for performing auto body repairs but I feel it is a bargain and should be the 1st book purchased for anyone proceeding down this line of research.I also feel that anyone restoring an automobile is better served by using techniques consistent with the era of the vehicle. While I would never recommend oxy-acetylene welding over MIG or TIG welding in auto body repairs even on a 60-70's auto due to the improvements in the welding technology, I would recommend the metal bumping approaches over many more modern approaches that tend to rely on replacing parts or copious amounts of filler. Also the analysis and approach to repairing damage (what dents to fix first) is also valid even when using other tools and/or techniques. Finally as a beginner "metal man" I find this approach to repairing damaged panels much easier than trying to recreate a damaged panel that can no-longer be purchased. Too bad you can bump out rust holes...

Excellent resource for restoring current or antique vehicles
I bought this book on Amazon and purchased some (vintage) tools elsewhere for my first attempt at restoring an older truck. It is a Fourth Edition reprint of the first publication from 1931 and is an excellent reference source for the auto restoration novice or auto fan.On slick pages, not paper, the photos and diagrams used throughout the manual will not absorb dirt and grease. Included within the manual are photos and descriptions on how to analyze the damage and work out the metal. Also included are photos and descriptions of the various tools used to "bump" the metal dents, creases, ridges, and V channels that result from accidents. The manual is an easy read and the approach is very logical and understandable. With a few purchases from Amazon, Ebay, or the local auto store you are on your way to restoring the metal on your own vehicle, whether new or antique.
