This film about an aristocratic family also tragically illustrates a young man with an oedipal complex. Rhys Meyers is at his best when he plays tantrums! Great actors! Beautiful film! Review: Cut up badly - The Magnificent Amberspms could have be one of the greatest American films. Unfortunately RKO masacred it so someitmes its even hard to follow. Still worth seeing for the bits that were left untouched.

The Amberson Family
At the turn of the 20th century the rich Amberson family live their lives as progress threatens their fortune. Orson Welles follow up to Citizen Kane not quite up there with his best films but still highly recommended for film buffs. A moving period melodrama with excellent performances from Joseph Cotton, Tim Holt, Anne Baxter and Agnes Morehead with a cameo appearance from Orson Welles who also narrates. This is the studio cut version with added happy ending superbly restored in 4K Ultra HD.

Do not buy the Spanish DVD advertised here!
Five stars for the film. Despite studio butchery there are still moments of sheer breathtaking cinema. HOWEVER do NOT buy the Spanish disc advertised here. It looks good it's certainly less expensive but you are unable to turn the subtitles off rendering it unwatchable.

Put this on your Must See Movie list
Orson Welles at his best...up until about 15mins left. That's when the studio stepped in and ruined the ending. But let's discuss the quality of the DVD. Being a Blu-ray snob, I was disappointed this was not available in BR format. However the picture and audio quality in this standard version is just fine. Do not be afraid of the first 5mins or so, this is told in flashback and is supposed to not have perfect picture quality.

Unbelievable
OMG what a letdown of a film. All the rave reviews and hype. This is up there with probably one of the worst films I've ever seen. In the bin.

Region B...at last!
Super transfer of this classic. Unusual accompanying booklet...a couple of sheets stapled together. But this is intentional...it gives it a traditional script style appearance! Delighted to finally have this on Blu-ray.
