Good to have on hand
The only thing I found to be wrong with these potato shreds is the rehydration instructions. They tell you to use way too much water. For BEST results cover the potatoes in hot (almost boiling) water and leave them to sit for 20 minutes. When they are done they will be the perfect consistency to make restaurant quality hashed browns.

I really love these products!
I purchased this product for emergencies as well as for my everyday use. I'm a senior and only have myself to cook for. I do very little cooking, so potatoes tend to spoil before I use them. I decided it's cheaper all around if I buy my dried potatoes and various other vegetables for emergencies as well as my everyday use. I only have to hydrate what I will eat and I don't have to worry about storage or running to the store every time I want to pick up fresh veggies etc. I was able to get rid of my freezer as well, as I never seemed to use foods that I had prepared, or had bought frozen.

Six of one; 1/2 dozen of the other
Okay, let me first say, these taste GREAT, and it's hard to tell them from fresh potatoes once they're prepared. That is as it should be, and these are awesome! If you feel compelled to maintain food stores by religious or political beliefs, these are a great choice for your pantry.the 6 of one, half dozen of another comment pertains to prep time. These are not time savers. By the time I reconstitute these, and then fry them up as hash browns, for example, I could just as easily have started with a couple fresh spuds, cooked them in the microwave, grated them into the fry pan, and done them that way. If I don't have fresh potatoes on hand, though, being able to toss these in boiling water to create "potatoes ex nihilo" is a huge help. That's why I keep these on hand.I also love these in stews, soup, etc. where one can toss in a handful (or more) and the potatoes will absorb cooking liquid and flavors while making themselves a delicious part of the dish. The ONLY reason I didn't give these 5 stars? The time it takes to reconstitute them. It's nothing changeable; I just wish it was shorter! I'll definitely keep buying these, and I recommend them to others.

The perfect Waffle House hashbrowns.
I don't know about you, but one of my guilty pleasures is Waffle House hashbrowns. I love them, and sometimes I crave them. If you do these just right, you get perfect Waffle House potatoes. I have tried all different ways of doing them myself but they never came out like these. Soak them in ice cold water for about 15 mins while you are doing other things, strain them and plop them in a hot skillet. Brown them really well on the one side before you flip them and crisp them up on that side. Just turn them once. And my friend, heaven on a plate. I have purchased these 3 times and been happy each time.

Exceeded expectations
A fairly common occurrence during my military days was the forced consumption of reconstituted "dried" potatoes, the memory left me with a somewhat deminished expectation of how these "shreds" would turn out. I carefully followed the preparation instructions, then grilled the potatoes with onions, salt, pepper and a bit of garlic. Wow. Thank you Augason for erasing a not too tasty memory! They responded well to rehydrating, assumed the addition of seasoning nicely. A great addition to the survival food bank!

I then put some onions in them and cook like hash browns
I put them in hot water for a few minutes and get them soft. Then I drain the water off through a strainer. I then put some onions in them and cook like hash browns. I have them along with some fried eggs and they are very tasty to me. I like them. So does my wife.

shelf life good / opening bad
Shelf life of 25 years is probable because it is next to impossible to open. I started with an electric can opener which wouldn't run after an inch. Then tried new manual opener - nope, tried all 3 old manual openers -nope. Finally used a really sharp knife and more or less sawed it open. Yea! Took only half an hour. Meanwhile the water I heated grew cold and my arms were nearly too tired to measure out the potatoes. I used them to make farmers breakfast but I won't be doing that again.

Great delivery, no damage in shipping!
Although I haven't opened up and tried the contents, I have seen others on YouTube who have done so, and they look great! They are going in my pantry, just in case. I like to be prepared for anything, and having these products that are so top quality in my pantry, makes me feel better and less worried about blackouts, and winter storms.
