Amazing product... Works magnificently. Words better than an eBay seller ripoff!
This is an LG refrigerator evaporator. The aluminium was kinked and leaked. It was a bloody mess. So I went to eBay to buy the new evaporator.... and needless to say I have to find the eBay rip off of a lifetime. This freak takes the money and doesn't send the product. Welcome to the 1 in 10 eBay experience. A week later eBay steps in and refunds my money under their guarantee policy. This event made me contemplate ways to repair this evaporator using copper brazed to aluminium. I did some research and found these Lucas Milhaupt rods. I have used brazing rods before with very mixed results so I was not optimistic. Especially if you look at the surgery and realize I sent copper tubes three inches down the top two aluminium tubes which I cut off with a hacksaw. The brazing was simple enough. I narrowed the flame and concentrated heat on the copper blushing the nearby aluminium joint. Once the rod started melting I applied more blushing heat to the aluminium. The rod puddles in a galvanized grey, not what I was expecting. The capillary action made a nice seal. During pressure testing, one of my joints, the first one, had a pinhole leak. I reheated it and applied more filler. I tested it again and STILL a tiny pinhole leak. I repeated the process and landed filler right in the area of the leak IT SEALED AND stood up to 200 PSI pressure testing! I was stunned. I just can't say enough good things about this product My project was COMPLEX, it wasn't a simple hole to be filled. This was like fixing an aortic aneurysm. When the puddle flows you focus your attention at the joint area. No stopping.... focus. This product won't let you down. And this is such an extreme case repair wrought in part by my hatred of the eBay ripoff. Nothing worse than a fat-fingered schlub that thinks they have one on you. Sorry pal, I'm a surgeon; I fix broken stuff. I don't buy used livers and kidneys off eBay. These rods repair aluminium which is great, BUT the MAGIC is that it brazes COPPER and ALUMINUM. Repairs, as I have done here, were always thought to be IMPOSSIBLE. With refrigeration, evaporator coils are now made of aluminium to save money which is fine and at their terminuses are copper tubes brazed inside the aluminium NOT ON THE OUTSIDE. The way they do that in the factory is to heat the copper tube red hot and then implant it inside the aluminium tube and this is a fast process. The heat of the copper fuses with the aluminium. They are different processes BUT it means that you can use a copper tube inside an aluminium tube if you braze it with these Lucas Milhaupt rods. That simple reality opens up all kinds of aluminium tube repairs once thought impossible. So before you go off to eBay to get ripped off for an evaporator, Use your head and think how you might be able to devise a beautiful permanent repair. See the photo of my old crushed and bent evaporator terminuses. Then you will understand how I fashioned my copper tube repair. Like a Bankart repair, stronger and better than the original! Great product and you will have fun doing it.

Great product!
I wanted to learn how to braze aluminum for a project. I tried many different rods as well as paste flux etc. These rods, by far, work the best without the need for additional flux. My brazing looks great. They are pricey, but worth every penny!

Good product
I was surprised by these rods. I've tried to braze with others that made the same claims and wasn't able to. Got it 1st attempt with these. Leaving 4 stars cuz the price jumped considerably when I went back to order more. It's 4 rods of aluminum not silver.

Feel free to use it in your work. I am very satisfied with the result. Very important parameters of pipe-to-pipe joint seating, heating temperature of materials and preparation of pipes before soldering. Good luck in your work.
