Easy to assemble, with easy to follow instructions on how to format and initialise, too.
I needed something to house an old 120Gb HDD that I salvaged from a Sony TV recorder I was throwing out (because it's tuner isn't compatible with the wavelengths, frequencies, or whatever, that all the channels have been moved to, any more), so that I could use it as a System Recovery and Backup drive for my new Dell Windows 10 laptop, in case it, or it's SSD, ever goes belly up, then I can just reinstall my operating system on a new laptop or drive (since you don't get a disk any more).Job's a good 'un. It's done. And I got it done in jig-time, as we say in my neck of the woods. It's a sturdy, gun-metal grey coloured, metal box with a nice, satin, 'blasted' type, finish. All the connectors, inside and out, and all 4 of the screw holes, line up perfectly. Before screwing it together you just take it apart by pulling the 'drawer' out and lie the HDD in it, then with a little sliding push, it connects both the power and data ports of the drive to the connectors of the enclosure, behind the front panel (which is on the other side of what I am calling the drawer: as in, like, a cupboard or a kitchen drawer), then you fix it down to the base of the drawer with the 2 short screws, supplied. No fiddly wires or connector blocks to deal with. Then just slide the drawer in to the casing and secure it, through the casing, with the 2 long screws (which also reach through and screw in to the threads in the base of your hard drive, helping to hold all three parts of the unit together). Nice, quick, easy and secure.I appreciated the instructions booklet provided, telling you how to get into the Disk Management application in Windows and format and initialise your hard drive, too. I had expected the drive just to turn up in the 'This PC' folder (sometimes called 'My Computer') when I connected it to my computer and switched it on, and I thought I would then just be able to right-click it and select 'Format' and do it from there, but it probably won't appear, at all, like it didn't in my case, until you configure the 'volume' (or 'partition') of the hard drive with the Windows 'Disk Manager' software application. So it was nice to have guidance in how to find it and open it. Once I had found and opened it, it was easy to use. I even managed to create 2 separate partitions on the same hard drive; one of 40Gb, for the System Recovery files, and another of just under 80Gb, for backing up my own music files, pictures, etc, which makes it appear in 'This PC' like it is two separate drives. So that's basically that. That and another top-tip. Don't throw away anything like a computer, tv recorder, or whatever, with the hard drive still it. Just get the screwdrivers out, haul it out and buy one of these. And don't forget to make a system recovery drive of your pc's precious operating system (your copy of Windows, in other words), if you haven't already. You could probably even use this as your video recorder, if you have a fairly recent, compatible, tv that can record programs on to a hard drive or flash drive, through it's own USB. Or if you have a CCTV system, or something, I suppose you could probably use it for that.

Not suitable for 2.5" SSD
Works fine and, so far, reliable. However the screw locations for securing the drive are for 3.5" drives, not for 2.5" SSD

Good quality but will not "enclose" all size HDDs
Pros:1) Product is great quality, and the provided stand does make it stand out from the other enclosures.2) It's compact, not bulky like the old external HDDs we used to get, so much better to use if you have an old HDD lying around that you want to make use of.Cons:1) The enclosure is not large enough for all HDD lengths. Width-wise it is fine, which means you can connect any HDD using this enclosure, but if it's too long, the screw holes won't line up so you won't be able to secure it with the screws, and will have to use a cable tie or tape. I had this issue with 1 of my 4 old HDDs that I dug out, but am not too bothered about it. I'll use tape if need be. If you care about this though, measure your HDD's length.2) The unit has two nice LED lights to indicate power and status, logically placed next to the power button.... but they are on the back, where the cables go in, where you can't see them, which is completely illogical. What is the point of lights on the back? What is the reason for the ON button being on the back? Huge design flaw if you ask me.Fortunately the lights and power button placement weren't important selling points for me, so I didn't make a complaint, but again, if it's something you care about, it's something to be aware of. It's just not something we as consumers would tend to think much about because.. well, LEDs indicating device status go on the front... where they are visible.. where they can actually serve their purpose in displaying to the user, the status... you know? *Shakes head*

Does what it says on the tin.
I wanted an external enclosure to house a WD 5Tb drive I already had to then use with my Xbox One S. Even though this was only bought at Christmas, the 1Tb internal drive was filling up quickly! I opted for this enclosure after looking at numerous options on Amazon. The drive slotted in easily, two screws held it to the caddy and then two longer screws attach through the case to hold the caddy inside the case. The only issue I had was that these two longer screws were a bit too long so didn't sit flush against the case and stuck out a bit. Fortunately I have a ton of computer bits and bobs and found a couple of slightly shorter screws that did the trick.I wanted to position this on top of the Xbox and I knew beforehand that it wasn't going to fit on its side due to a shelf above, it would need to sit flat. To reduce the chance of any vibration, and potentially scratching the top of the Xbox One, I attached four self-adhesive rubber feet that I had to each corner and it sat nicely on top of the console.Turned it on, the Xbox recognised it and after formatting it to allow games/apps to be used I was soon moving over a bunch of games to the external drive and freeing up the internal drive. In use it doesn't get hot, is quiet (obviously more to do with the hard disk itself) and, with the appropriate setting in the console settings, it sleeps a short while after the console is turned off.Very happy so far with this and would recommend. Just be aware that you 'may' need a couple of slightly shorter screws for the case, especially if you plan to use it flat and not on its side.

Fine for the money....
This RSHTech external enclosure is very compact. Not much bigger than the 3.5” hard drive itself and is a rather fetching gunmetal colour. The enclosure surround is aluminium. The drive tray and front panel, which come in one piece, are plastic as is the rear moulding with ventilation hole cut outs.It is relatively easy and quick to assemble. The hard drive is screwed into the plastic drive tray (2 screws) and there is concern that the retaining screws may over time weaken / crack the plastic tray. There could be an issue with some disks as the rear plastic moulding (with ventilation cut outs) is secured in place with retaining clips / lugs which can / could stop the hard drive from fully inserting into the casing. This happened to me and I had to sand one of the retaining plastic clips / lugs down with sand paper to fully insert my hard disk into the enclosure. As has been noted previously, it uses the ASM1153e chipset and is recognised in HD Sentinel if you use that disk monitoring software.USB 3.0 speeds are fair with average sustained transfer speeds of 100MB/s (for large files) and burst speeds of 135MB/s.As regards heat, well for light copying it just gets a bit warm but for sustained copying it does get ‘extremely’ warm. The power adapter cable is somewhat short at 1.1 m as is the USB 3.0 cable. The stand provided is also a bit unstable in my opinion.Time will tell how durable this item is. All in all 4 stars.
