Fun and quick!
I have been reading Sonia Mehta's collection of informative books that offer insightful information about various aspects of our country and I would be lying if I say that her books are not the best! The new one to the addition, Mountains and Rivers of India, is another beautiful addition to the collection. In this one, there are two sections- one is totally devoted to the mountains and the other is reserved for the water bodies.Right from the Anaimalai Hills in Munnar, the Vindhya Range, the Aravalli Range to the Satpura Range, the Purvanchal Range and the Great Himalayas, this section of the book is amazing. Being a traveller by passion, I didn’t expect reading about these green/brown giants would be so much fun! I wished I had paid more attention to detail in school. The descriptions are kept short and the beautiful pictures are alluring. The second part deals with the Ganges, the Chenab and many more rivers that are backed by folklores and interesting stories. This is yet another book that I am treasuring for my kid because I’m sure she will enjoy reading about the rivers and mountains more using this book than her coursebook!

An awesome book about India's Mountains & Rivers
Mountains and Rivers of India is a book written and illustrated by Sonia Mehta and published by Puffin Books (an imprint of Penguin Random House). This book is divided into 2 sections, Mountains and Rivers.Let me tell you, it’s not only about the mountains and rivers of India, it’s also about how diverse India is in its landforms, how those landforms have been formed, and a lot of interesting stories around them.I knew about the mountain ranges but never knew about the states which each of these ranges passes through, or how each of these ranges was formed. It very well explains why and how the cities have grown along the banks of these rivers and between the valleys of these mountain ranges. I love how the vegetation, culture, history, and wildlife are interwoven with the place and its origin which makes me want to know more about it. It also touches upon why certain rivers are important to the people of certain parts of India. This book summarizes and explains the mountains, rivers, their origin, tributaries, and how they all impact the lives of the people around them very beautifully. It also tells us about the life and culture of the people and how all these have evolved over the centuries. Small stories related to the history of these mountains and rivers, people and communities, and the legends and folklore given in this book make it a very interesting read.I am sure that after reading this book, everybody will be fascinated by the geography of India. This book can also be a great source of knowledge and inspiration for traveling across the length and breadth of India. After reading this book and looking at all the beautiful illustrations, I wanted to go to the mountains, rivers, and plains, all at the same time.Recommended Age: 6 – 99 years (as it has information for every age)
