BTCGC Series Never Fails
Full disclosure. This fell just shy of a 5 star read for me. But this series is still a keeper. Absolutely highly recommend.Again, individual stories are told but are masterfully woven together. I felt some of the characters were a bit more difficult for me to connect with than the previous two books, but overall the stories and how they connected was good as usual.Wicked twist at the end that made me cry. And I was kind of mad. But life is life and it often plays out different than you want. This series definitely reminds us of that but also offers slivers of hope. So the ending made sense in that vein. Still mad though LOL

An Endearing and Heartwarming Series
I find this series to be so endearing and heartwarming. Even though the time travel premise is the same in every “chapter”, each story feels fresh and unique while still moving the overall storyline of the main characters forward. Before Your Memory Fades caught me by surprise as it takes place in a different city and cafe, but when explained it absolutely made sense. Absolutely loved the new characters and location.I found the story about a daughter traveling back to confront her parents both heartbreaking and moving. The story of Todoroki and Hayashida of the comedy duo PORON DORON was one of my favorites and I especially liked how it connected to one of the cafe workers. The story about two sisters impacted me the most. Having lost my aunt, I saw the grief of losing a sister through my mother’s and her surviving sister’s eyes. The author does a beautiful job capturing the bond of sisters and the grief of losing one. There is a lighter, but somewhat serious, note woven throughout all of the stories which was young Sachi posing questions to costumers from her book “What If the World Were Ending Tomorrow? One Hundred Questions.” It was entertaining throughout the novel, but most moving in the last story. There is SO much I love about this installment. If you don’t want to go back to the start of the series, Before Your Memory Fades would be a good place to start.

The Takita Family Serves Their Time Travel Coffee from Another Cafe
In the third installment of Toshikazu Kawaguchi's time travel series, "Before Your Memory Fades," some members of the Takita Family leave the Tokyo time travel cafe behind to help manage another time travel cafe in a popular tourist destination in Northern Japan while a relative is off in the United States rendering aid to someone in need. Although you could read the books as standalones, I highly recommend reading them in order, or else the reader will miss out on important foundational information and subtle connections among the characters in all three books. The most important parameters surrounding the brief visits to another time, but not another place (all conversations have to happen when the other parties were or will be in the cafe) remain the same from the first books: you stay in the past (or the future) only as long as your coffee stays warm. If you do not drink it all before it gets cold, you become a ghost, doomed to sit in the cafe for eternity or until - oops! You have to read the books to find that out. Four persons embark on the perilous journey to speak to loved ones: parents, a romantic partner, a sibling, and a childhood friend. These poignant stories captured my imagination and my heart. I have already preordered Book 4, which is scheduled to be released in November 2023.

too many new characters
As i read j-lit i has always been my problem; i cant see whether the name of character is a he or she; this a bit disrupt my imagination of understanding the story. New char and new names keep popping it just a bit made me confused. Also too many similar background story between characters made the following chapter wasnt as engaging as the previous one.I was only followed the story only after 80% of reading, though the book has beautiful meaning of life for the ending and it still heartwarming and touch my feeling.

So good!
I say this with every book in this series: I highly recommend that you read all of the books in this series in order so you might understand just a bit more. The thought of visiting a café where you could visit the past or present is naturally intriguing, and Toshikazu Kawaguchi did not disappoint. I love the stories in this latest novel in the Before the Coffee Gets Cold series. In this particular novel, several of the stories dealt with locals and regulars to the café. I enjoyed all of the interconnectedness. The quote at the end really resonated with me when I read it. "Something I strongly believe is that we mustn't allow the death of a person to eb the cause of unhappiness. The reason for that is simple: if we let everyone who dies be a cause for unhappiness, that would mean people are being born to become unhappy. But opposite in fact, it's true. People are always born for the sake of happiness."4 out of 5 stars. Great quick read! Thank you to Hanover Square Press!

Recommend
This book is the third part to the famous series "Before the Coffee gets Cold." It truly keeps up with the slice of life feelings from the previous books but also introduces new themes that the reader can get lost in. I recommend this book and the previous ones!

An emotional read about loss and forgiveness set in Japan
I knew from the previous two books in this series that I would fall in love with the characters and journeys embarked on within this read. For sure, that's what happened.Kawaguchi has such a poignant style pf writing, which leaves you with utter goosebumps whilst reading. The four stories explored gave me a different. yet compelling meaning of life itself - and how relationships with loved ones can impact your life - even when they are long gone.I really like the way the book is divided - into 4 main stories. You grow so attached to the characters (old and new). It is as if you feel the pain they harbour, and can see into there hearts clearly. There are really no complaints about this book. The author has such a delicate manner of conveying such heartbreaking situations, and finding hope and closure at the end.Lastly, time travel fiction is always so fascinating - the element of it here is by far my favourite. The plot question I had were always answered in such a clever way and an articulated manner. I do hope the fourth book will be released one day.
