AR500 Steel Targets - 2100 FPE - 3/8 Inch AR500 Steel Gong - Laser Cut, Zinc Plated, Reactive

Great quality! It is unpainted which saves costs. The target was cleaned up so there were no burrs or scratches on the target. As far as sound, I use electronic ears so I can hear the ring very well. My shooting partner was using foam ears and had trouble hearing it. The gong swung a good foot backward when hit and takes a few second to settle down. I have seen pictures on the internet where shooters used huge chains to hang the target. That may help reduce the swinging a bit. I used the bolt-nuts-washer technique and used #36 bank line to hang the target. The angle of the hanging target prevents ant spalling from hitting and damaging or cutting the bank line. I shot it one time and it did come loose. Though I had trashed the bank line. Nope, hit the carriage bolt and broke the cap off the bolt. The bolts used were not grade 8, just standard old carriage bolts from the hardware store. If I were shooting distance where errant shots are more likely, I would still use the bank line. We were shooting this at 125 yards with .223 FMJ and it did not damage the gong except when we hit the very edge of the target on two sides. This normal for steel targets Now ALL AR500 targets should be hit by bullets below 3,000 fps, though many advertise 2,800 is okay. I came back here to order another steel target (8") so I thought I would go ahead and give my review. MOTE: I used steel pipes to build my stand. It break into 5 sections (but used 12 pieces total) for moving. It makes a bundle the size of a camping chair. Making another stand using furniture steel pipe fittings. You have to order those, they do not have them at ANY hardware store. Got four 3-way fittings for $11 delivered here on Amazon!

Originally purchased the 6" gong to test one out. Was kind of skeptical, never shot steel. I have shot several hundred rounds at the target, mostly 9mm, and no damage at all. I have since purchased more from shooting targets 7. Two 8" gongs & two 10" bullseye gongs. These targets are high quality at an affordable price. Shipping is quick also. These targets will last a life time and are much better than shooting paper. Feedback is instant without having to go look to see where you hit. I paint these with $1 a can spray paint from Walmart & you can see the paint chip where the bullet hits. Shoot them up then re-paint. Very fun. It is good to have several to practice accurate speed shooting. The bullseye targets have become the favorite. Adds an extra challenge to try and hit the center to see it pop up. My recommendation is to buy the mounting chains they offer to hang them with. You can't buy them any cheaper and they are good quality. The 10" bullseye gongs come with the chains, ready to hang. I hang them off steel shepherds hooks purchased from Home Depot in the garden center. They don't splinter like wood frames do.

Great target, this is my 3rd target from them, no issues. Very pleased Now if amazon would just deliver to the proper address, big issue there.

These plates have exceeded my expectations. They seem to be finished is a corrosion resistant plating, they have good quality cuts without burrs on them and they have held up to the calibers stated in the description. We have used 5.56 NATO on 2 of them at as close as 20 yards (which is way closer than the manufacturer spec) and they have some very shallow pitting but overall I am impressed with the abuse they have been able to withstand. We have shot .22, .380ACP, 9mm, .40cal,.45ACP, 12gauge 7.5 target load at 15 yards, and none of that even puts a dent in the plate. It was only once we started shooting 5.56 NATO at 20 yards at a few of the plates that they started pitting, which is to be expected because they aren't rated for that. Overall I am impressed and will be buying more.

Shoot this target all the time anywhere from 100 yards to 500 yards and it keeps on ticking. Repaint it every now and then and back out we go.

Kinda wish it just came with chains or straps rather than ordering them separate, but it's a great target. I hung it from some chains (also from this company) and the 6" x 3/8" doesn't ring very loud, but it stands up to everything I've thrown at it so far: .22, .38 SP +P, .357 Mag, 5.56 green tip. All they did was remove paint. You could barely tell the difference in caliber hits. I sprayed some red paint on it so it's more visible and left it outside, so we'll see how it holds up. I'll throw some more calibers at it and report back later!

I got a 10" 3/8 gong target for me and my friends to shoot as a cheap intro to steel to test the waters and now I really regret not getting into steel targets sooner. We put about 1300 rounds of 9mm into it the first day and there was no noticeable wear from that. We did try about 5 rounds of 55grain 556 from about 20 yards (which the target isn't rated for at that distance) just as a test and it did ok, but did get small divots from those. Id recommend 1/2" thick target for rifle especially if you are gonna be shooting closer than the recommended 100 yards with rifles for better target longevity. We wanted targets to use for drills/training so we will be much closer than recommended, your mileage may vary depending on distance and caliber. For the price I'm extremely happy and we all plan on buying more of these, but from now on we will get 1/2" instead.
