Q: can you purchase a longer section of the tubing that is used to empty the tank and if so where can i get a longer section

We currently only sell this kind of product and there is no other longer sections of the tubing that is used to empty the tank.

Q: does the bag need to be under water for this thing to work

Yes. As shown in the pictures, the bag needs to be underwater. I use this device to clean the gravel while I do a water change - so I don’t use the bag. Instead, I connect a hose in its place. Works well.
