Uncommonly Good Writing!
Unfortunately, we are not blessed with an abundance of accomplished moto-journalists. Mark has a talent for telling a good story plus he has access to people and places that gives him a lot of information that the average motorcyclist does not have. Mark is an excellent writer with a passion for motorcycles. I hope that he keeps writing for a very long time. I loved this book!

Motorcyclist Journalism at it's Best !
I knew when I ordered this book it would be money well spent but was pleasantly surprised when I began reading it. Mark has a way of writing from a true motorcyclists point of view that only another motorcyclist can appreciate. Being a fellow Canuck , only makes it more interesting. Thanks Mark :-)

Fun, Interesting, And Sometimes Poignant
I really enjoyed The Best of Backmarker... Great stories and insights, both into the joys of motorcycles and racing, and sometimes the sympathetic character of Mark Gardiner himself. Nobody else will ever be Peter Egan, but being Mark Gardiner is itself is a different and totally worthwhile thing.

Great read
Well written and researched. Also compelling as you learn a lot about the author's personal life. Book covers a lot more than just motorcycles and motorsport and should be of wide appeal. Also worth reading 'Riding Man' by the same author.

Wow what a suprise
just a nice easy read, I've never of the author before(I'm not a great reader of bike "mags) but I really enjoyed the collection of small stories. It makes you sad, it makes you happy, it makes you laugh out loud.

WONDERFUL
This is a very entertaining read. Mark has put together a nice collection of stories that covers all aspects of motorcycling, from racing to history some storytelling even a little politics thrown in. Cannot wait for your next book Mark.

Engaging read
I bought this book after I finished reading Riding Man. Mark Gardiner really knows his way around most any motorcycle-related topic. I can't wait for his next book.

A North American point of view.
I have ridden motorcycles all my life and have been very Eurocentric in my involvement. I hear American and think Harley so my interest is killed, instantly.Mark Gardiner is a North American who writes from a non-Harley-centric point of view. His quiet digs at the Harley monoculture made me chuckle. His take on the African American rally goers at Sturgis, was refreshing. Surely belying his Canadian origin.MG’s chapters on racing were very engaging, because apart from going to the Isle Of Man many times for the history and the spectacle, I am not at all interested in the GP circus and the Prima-donnas attached to it. The fact that he kept me reading says heaps for his engaging style. The story about the French fella lending his precious engine to the American team was priceless.Thank you Mark Gardiner for opening my eyes to many sides of motorcycling that I have not been exposed to in my lifetime on motorcycles.Highly recommended.
