Great crib for parents looking for an affordable green solution
I just spent the last few days corresponding with a representative from Million Dollar Baby (the crib manufacturer). Daniel, the customer service representative really went out of his way to address my concerns and questions about the crib. So for all of you parents out there looking for an affordable green crib, here's what I found out. 1. The Jenny Lind crib is made of all solid wood (except for the models with a drawer which has an mdf panel). The wood is New Zealand Pine which is sustainably grown and forested in New Zealand. 2. The crib is made in Taiwan. 3. The glue used to adhere the crib slats is formaldehyde free, is water-based and non-toxic. 3. The finish on the crib -- here is a direct quote from the company -- "For all of our paints and finishes we use a non toxic sealer with lacquer. Our paint is ultra-safe. We exceed JPMA regulations and go through annual paint tests. Paint is called safe when it has toxic materials under 300 parts per million [ppm]. For a company to claim low toxicity means they have paint with toxicity below 90 ppm. Here at Million Dollar Baby, our paint levels come in at less than 2 ppm." -- Just to give you a comparison, Benjamin Moore Eco Spec paint which is LEED certified and has a toxicity level of .1 ppm. So although the finish on the crib is not that low, it is still very, very, very good. 4. Million Dollar Baby was willing to sell me an unfinished crib to help allay my fears about off-gassing -- which really impressed me. However after the $189 crib price tag, the $103 shipping cost and the exorbitant amount of money/hassle to get the crib painted or do it ourselves, we started to wonder if we were going overboard. I then had a chance to speak with a LEED certified builder/architect in our area who is really passionate about his work. He was really impressed with low toxicity levels of the crib's finish and told me that formaldehyde would be my biggest concern and since the glues were water-based we shouldn't worry. He said that the non-organic paint finishes pose the greatest health dangers to workers who apply the finishes and not to consumers who purchase the products. He suggested that we save the money we would spend painting the crib and shipping it and invest it in an organic mattress. He said fabric off-gassing is exponentially more dangerous. So, we just ordered the crib from Amazon and are anxious to have it arrive. I suggested to Million Dollar Baby that they offer an unfinished version of the crib on Amazon -- as it would be the only crib of it's type on the market and may attract sustainably-conscious parents. So, if you're interested in a unfinished crib, I would suggest getting in touch with the company directly -- you can request this from Amazon. Maybe if more of us speak-up, we'll create a demand for more affordable green baby products that are safe for us and for those manufacturing them. Toxin-free baby cribs should not be just available to the very wealthy. In the meantime, I feel like I'll be able to rest easy knowing that our little baby will be sleeping in a safe crib. Update 7/29/2012: The crib arrived yesterday and it's put together. It was super easy to assemble and it looks exactly like it does in the on-line photos. It seems sturdy and I imagine it will feel even more so after the mattress is in place. We're really happy that we made this purchase -- it's perfect.

Sweetest Spindle Crib!
This crib is beautiful! It’s very sturdy, it’s a perfect height for us (I did leave the wheels off). We don’t get to use it much because my baby sleeps in my bedroom, but I’d trust it all through the night.

Perfect
I bought two of these for baby and toddler. It's perfect I love the style and white color. I love that it's easy to lower the mattress and to change to toddler bed. Such a cute vintage feel and affordable considering there's some really expensive cribs out there. Instructions were easy to follow. Honestly perfection serves its function.

Great Quality & Great Looking at a Great Price
These cribs were purchased by our parents for our twin girls. I have always loved this style, and leave it to Amazon to have them and for an amazing price. They arrived separately as they were different orders, and they both arrived earlier than anticipated. They were very well packed with no scratches or marks and all hardware in the boxes. The cribs were a snap to put together. We had both of them up in the room in under a half an hour, and they look fantastic. They are very sturdy and feel solid. The white color is a beautiful matte finish, which is reassuring. It doesn't look like this paint with flake off with the abuse they'll get from our girls. They are full size cribs, but feel smaller in nature than those big heavy wooden cribs that are so popular, which is perfect for us considering we have 2 in one room. It would be great in a smaller room and even great to use in the master before moving it and baby to his or her own room. I have only a few minor issues and they are very fixable. First, the warning stickers are on the OUTSIDE of both ends of the crib and I didn't realized this until after they were assembled. It would have been easier to remove them prior. Some vinegar and a hot cloth will get them off, just be prepared for that. The other thing is that as per many of the other reviews, the wheel casings for these wheels are hideous. They are not a pretty gold color, but rather an awful shiny yellow color. They can easily be repainted or replaced at a big box store. We just opted not to use them. Lastly, the mattress platform is black, as is the hardware that attaches it to the crib. We don't have our mattresses in yet, but I have concerns that the hardware will show around the mattress. If it does, I'll simply paint them white to match the crib. Overall, these cribs are fantastic and we're extremely pleased!

Great Price, Great Crib!
We bought this crib three years ago and my bouncing baby boy has been sleeping in it since he was six months old. He’s a whopping almost three now and he has put this crib through every test a chomping, slobbering, bouncing, very tall little boy can think to put a piece of furniture through. He has jumped, he has chewed, he has climbed up and over, over and around, he has used the bed as a launch pad to space and an afternoon lounge. He has loved this bed, it is truly his snuggy. And the most amazing thing of all, this bed has survived my son’s aggressive affection and is still alive to tell the story. It’s been one of our best buys and I can’t recommend it enough. We are officially moving on to it’s third iteration soon as a little sofa in his room, perfect for reading and creating dramas for his army of stuffed animals to perform. As for the logistics, it came with no issues or parts missing, easy directions and very easy to put together. It is sturdy. It doesn’t look sturdy, but it really is. My son had a fun chewing-on-the-rail phase and he’s still alive, so all the claims for non-toxic paint are also true. Honestly, you just can’t go wrong with this purchase.
