Amazing experience
I didn't expect anything special from this funnel, just stronger coffee. But when I took the first sip, I almost fell off the balcony (literary exaggeration)The drink was so rich, a completely different taste compared to the usual V60.The funnel itself is made of nice ceramics, looks and feels very good.Recommended for purchase! ☕

Pour and walk away, easy and tasty but best for single cup brews
I wanted a coffee maker that's even simpler than everything else I already had (V60, aeropress, clever). The Mugen lives up.I can use any kettle. Pour carefully in circles, give it a quick swirl, and walk away; no preheat needed with medium roast. To clean, toss the filter an just rinse the cone in the sink. With all other brewers, you have to time things, either infusion time or pours. In terms of recipe, I don't follow their recommendation and instead I do the same 1 cup recipe I always do: 15g of coffee to 250g of water, grind size slightly finer than V60. Tastes delicious and pretty close to my V60.The only downside is that it is best suited for single brews. 24g of coffee takes forever to brew and does taste muted from declining water temperature. I will continue to brew 30/500g with the regular v60 02.

Simple and makes a great cup
As with all Hario products, value is excellent. The Mugen is no exception. Easy to use and durable. I like this recipe best for light and medium roasts: 16.5g coffee, 225ml water 93-96 degrees. Pour water at a steady rate until you reach 225ml at 40 seconds. Let drain and you're done. Makes a consistent tasty cup of coffee. Enjoy!

Makes an excellent cup but is very fragile.
This is one of the easiest ways to enjoy quality pour over due to its one pour design. Results may still be customized by grind size and water temperture. The plastic version is very fragile. A fall of 3+ feet broke it in two after a month of use. The ceramic version is likely even more fragile.

Absolutely Perfect
Over the past 50 years, I have amassed quite a collection of coffee drippers. Until I tried the Mugen, the Kalita 102 was my favorite. But, my goodness, how quickly the Mugen won me over. It makes a beautiful cup of coffee with subtle nuances other drippers completely fail to capture. The added bonus is that the Mugen requires a one-pour which means I can pour and then putter around the kitchen for three minutes or so until my cup of perfection is ready. I did buy an incredible *detachable universal coffee stand* (you can easily find it on Amazon) that is worth every penny. I wish I had this combo 50 years ago!

Slower drawdown, better cups with more developed roasts
as the title says: with the mugen I've experienced slower drawdowns and more chocolaty cups with most medium to darker roasts.I don't quite get my favorite results with super light roasts, but a lot of the roasters local to me roast way darker than I typically prefer. as such I found a lot of success with this as I found it to produce better and more consistent cups with those coffees.I didn't do any extensive testing or fancy refractometry but I definitely liked what I got in the cup.Like a lot of people I bought one to swap it into the Hario Switch base, don't do that, the heat retention isn't worth the slower drawdown for steep and release.

This makes perfect coffee!
This is one of the best purchases I’ve made. It has allowed me to make the perfect cup of coffee. I like the Mugen over the V60. It’s easier to use and I get better coffee. Heck, I get great coffee! I much prefer pour over to drip or French press.

The Ceramic version is potentially toxic
The flat surface bottom side of the base of the ceramic funnel appears to be uncoated, exposing ceramic to your coffee.Chipped Ceramic Cookware is considered unsafe to use so would this be safe? Ceramic material is composed of metals and toxic materials that can be harmful to people. The glazed coating provides a glass-like finish and protects from any metals or chemicals leaching out.I used this on my Hario V60 Switch base. Like other Hario drippers, it fits perfectly on the Switch, but immersion is a bad idea. The exposed ceramic base is exposed and soaking in the coffee when the switch is closed. The other thing is that I didn’t notice any improvement when compared to my glass V60 Dripper. In theory, the flat surfaces minimize bypass, but I used it with the Switch in a combination of immersion and percolation so it didn’t make a difference.I am throwing this in the garbage.Hario says their plastic version is made of “Acrylonitrile-styrene resin”. Unfortunately this is very similar to ABS and Polystyrene. Neither plastic should be used with food. FDA allows BPA even though we know it’s toxic. It’s up to the consumer to educate yourself. Hario is a company who is obviously not concerned about selecting health conscious materials.
