Reese and Shay
The beautifully written story of an abused woman and a veteran she helps heal. The characters have so many different complex sides. Love the way Shay wants to helps the returning vets like herself.

Absolutely touched my heart...
I have long been a fan of Ms. McKenna’s books – and a rabid Delos series reader! – and I have read the first Wind River story. However, Wind River Rancher touched me, on so many levels, right from page 1. Yeah, I was a little annoyed that I started snifflin’ so early in the book but truly, it will touch your heart and soul. Maybe it is because she was in the military herself, still works with and supports military families and vets, or maybe it is because she feels what a Vet is going thru. I am just happy that she creates these stories for us to read and enjoy.WRR is about Shay Crawford, a veteran, and Reese Lockhart, also a veteran. Shay is building a ranch for wounded vets where they can heal and truly feel useful to society – and themselves. All of the wranglers, including Shay, are a ragtag group that has formed a family. And they welcome Reese into their fold right away. He makes a difference, to all, but mostly to Shay and himself. What a healing journey for these two!We get to meet some characters from the previous book – no biggee, this is a standalone novel – and they add some spice to this story. I love Charlie; you’ll meet him right away and he is a big part of the reason for my beginning sniffles. There’s lots of heart in this story! I won’t recap because it is too good for me to condense into not-quite-enough words. I wholeheartedly recommend Wind River Rancher and will bet that you fall in love with Reese at page one.

Excellent storyline, fantastic characters, but a bit too repetitious
Shay and Reese’s story is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Both were in the military; both have PTSD. Additionally, Shay is working to save her legacy—the family ranch—and care for her father who suffered a stroke and is a nursing home. Her father verbally emotionally abused Shay all her life and she carries the weight of that with her continually in the form of a poor self-image and lack of self-confidence. Meeting is the very best thing to happen to Shay and Reese.Ms. McKenna has done a yeoman’s job of presenting the nature and stigma of PTSD, the benefits of caring and support for the rehabilitation of veterans, and the nature and consequences of a dysfunctional family. What kept this from being a five-star read for me was the immense amount of repetition within the descriptions and dialogue. Some judicious editing would smooth this and streamline the content.

Delightful
What an easy read and with so many likeable and hard working characters. A safe loving environment can work miracles.

Great, interesting and informative.
I really, really enjoyed this book. Being a military veteran myself it was good to know that others, i.e. a writer, like Me. McKenna would think to incorporate some great information on PTSD, for others to understand. Great job. I will be starting book number 3 in about 10 minutes.

A MOST WORTHY PTSD BOOK TO READ
2nd read for me on this one. To me, this a book well worth reading as PTSD has affected so many. Thank you Ms. McKenna. As far as the ranching errors, one has to actually live on a ranch to know all the ends and outs.

INSPIRING!!
As usual Ms. McKenna has done it again!! This story was so very heart felt at times it made you cry, it made you laugh and it just made you mad!! People need to learn about our Military, active duty and VETS!!! They need us to give a little back to the huge amount they give us......and people are somewhat dumb that our men and women put their lives on the line every day!! I'm from a four generation military family and wish the people of our beloved country would wise up and stand up!!! Especially the VA! Thank you Ms. McKenna for bringing all this to the fore front.

A heartfelt look at healing and finding a place as a veteran
While I am sure this book oversimplifies this look into PTSD and the horrible affects it has on our veterans, I really did think that it at least scratched the surface and provided a narrative toward understanding. The love story was sweet and not rushed and I really liked the other characters who live at the ranch. They get their own books later and I have begun reading those as well. A nice collection of heartwarming stories.

Riveting story.. Hard to put down
Absolutely love this story.. Very moving tale of military vets and the suffering they experience with PTSD. The hero of this story sounds wonderful, sexy, strong and caring. The heroine is hard working., dedicated and loving both to her abusive alcoholic father and the vets she made a home for.. Highly recommended

I enjoyed reading another book in this series of the Wind River Series. I can't wait to read more books in this series.I find it refreshing to read about the veterans who went to war. I would recommend it to anyone who has read the first book in this series.
