Q: What is the opening force required for these valves

It isn't very much. I used one to replace the check valve in my door drain in my walk-in tub which would only have at worst a 3 -4 inches of standing water in the tube and It allowed the water to pass.

Q: Will this work if tubing is laid sideways?

Yes it will work in any position.

Q: Where do I put this on a portable a/c condensation line. Close to the unit or down the line further. It will be on a 10 ft clear flexible tubing?

If you using a condensate pump put it as close to the pump as you can. If you not using a pump and using gravity draining you don't need it.

Q: Can this be used on a submersible 600gph water pump for the basement?

Check valves of this size are meant for use in smaller capacity pumps such as condensate pumps for air conditioners or dehumidifiers. Not for basement pumps.
