Understand Yourself
I bought this book and read it. It is interesting for many reasons. I am a lover of books and I am married to books (metaphorically). Why I say that this book is interesting is that it is life changing. The few dollars I spent on this book is worth and I learnt a lot by reading this book. The chapters are shorter and easy to grasp. Some ideas may be unfamiliar to a novice reader but if you are an experienced and an avid reader, you can get at the gist of the book. Many people have complexes (psychological) and they struggle to come out of the shell they live in. This book helps you to see the world as it is and you can transform your life with ideas from the book. The ideas in the book are worth remembering and practicing. If you are into understanding the nature of human mentality, behavior and why people do certain things but why they are afraid of doing certain things is interesting. In our lives we undergo numerous pains and we sometimes become depressed and helpless. This book helps anyone to see the world as it is.The writer is an experienced professional in his field and particularly this book helps one to be motivated, enthusiastic in anything she does and develop confidence. He is a leading scholar and a much respected counselor. I read about his biography on the net and I was very impressed. He is an authority on his subject. I can say that this book is a booster - it boosts your performance. It is light reading.Maltz takes the reader into an unexplored area of human mentality, how to overcome fears, the basis of fear and personal development. He helps the reader overcome fears. He argues that most of the fears we have are all baseless and unscientific. Fears come out of ignorance. Fears come out of wrong perceptions we have. Fears come out of not being exposed to the world we live in. That is what he says. The book is pocket sized and you can carry it when you travel. It is like a handbook on personal development. If you have any interest in mentoring, counseling, public speaking or teaching, this is the next book you may consider reading.I personally like the ideas in the book. The time you may spend will be worth the trouble you take to read this book. The chapters in it are short and run into a couple of pages and at a single sitting you can read a chapter. Make this book a partner in your life. It is worth buying and keeping in your private library. In life one may experience ups and downs. Tribulations in life are part of human existence on this planet. We seek advice from others, counselors, teachers or if you belong to a profession of respect - mentors. This book is a companion mentor. If you are in need of some expert advice, consult this book. Discuss what is in it. It will pay rich dividends. The final verdict on the book is that it is a book of interesting ideas for us to be human. It is a book that teaches us how to face life. It is a book that teaches us live happily. It is a book that teaches us how to help others in need. My friends, read it. You will soon see a dramatic transformation in your life. It is life changing and mind changing. The contents of the book are to be digested (metaphorically). The ideas in the book by Maltz (the writer) will enlighten you all.Susil Manchanayaka, B. Beautiful Edition of One of the Great Books of All Time
This is by far one of the most powerful books of all time, even some 65 years after its first printing. And this edition is so beautiful. It’s truly collector’s quality. I’m so glad I bought this.

Classic masterpiece still shining
After reading quite a few self-help and self-examination books, this is the book I was waiting for. Although at first I was quite skeptical because of the age of the book (I though "Would there be something new for me, would the ideas be still valid?"), after first several pages doubts dissolved and I was entirely caught.I believe all the reviews have said already enough, so I'll keep my review short. This book has all that I want from it:- Down-to-earth style without exaggerations. Yet very strong and moving content, explaining how human brain works, what brings us happiness/more life, and how to achieve it.- Positive :o). Gives reader so much energy into his life.- No easy-read. Should be read definitely more times than once.Simply put, this is a must read in the area of self-help/psychology books. Some of favorite quotes:"The self-image is changed, for better or worse, not by intellect alone, nor by intellectual knowledge alone, but by "experiencing." Wittingly or unwittingly you developed your self-image by your creative experiencing in the past. You can change it by the same method. " (page x)"One of the most pleasant thoughts to any human being is the thought that he is needed, that he is important enough to help and add to the happiness of some other human being." (page 97)"Since man is a goal striving being, he is functioning naturally and normally when he is oriented toward some positive goal and striving toward some desirable goal. Happiness is a symptom of normal, natural functioning and when man is functioning as a goal-striver, he tends to feel fairly happy, regardless of circumstances." (page 101)"Our habits are not accidental, or happenstance. We have them because they fit us. They are consistent with our self-image and our entire personality pattern. When we consciously and deliberately develop new and better habits, our self-image tends to outgrow the old habits and grow into the new pattern. " (page 108)"To give the other person credit for being sincere, if mistaken, rather than willful and malicious, can do much to smooth out human relations and bring about better understanding between people. Ask yourself, "How does this appear--to him?" "How does he interpret this situation?" "How does he feel about it?" Try to understand why he might "act the way he does."" (page 115)"Man maintains his balance, poise, and sense of security only as he is moving forward--or seeking. When you think of yourself as having attained the goal, you become static, and you lose the security and equilibrium you had when you were moving towards something. The man who is convinced that he is "good" in the absolute sense, not only has no incentive to do better, but he feels insecure because he must defend the sham and pretense." (page 137)"Regardless of your feelings, force yourself to mix and mingle with other people. After the first cold plunge, you will find yourself warming up and enjoying it if you persist. Develop some social skill that will add to the happiness of other people: dancing, bridge, playing the piano, tennis, conversation. It is an old psychological axiom that constant exposure to the object of fear immunizes against the fear. As the lonely person continues to force himself into social relations with other human beings--not in a passive way, but as an active contributor--he will gradually find that most people are friendly, and that he is accepted. His shyness and timidity begin to disappear. He feels more comfortable in the presence of other people and with himself. The experience of their acceptance of him enables him to accept himself." (page 139)"If responding and reacting to negative feedback does not take us further down the road to our own goal--or serve our ends, then there is no need to respond at all. And, if response of any kind gets us off course, or works against us--then no response is the appropriate response." (page 199)"If life adapts itself in so many varied forms to act as a means toward an end, is it not reasonable to assume that if we place ourselves in the sort of goal-situation where more life is needed, that we will receive more life?" (page 261)

Amazing, eye-opening, life-changing, practical manual to improve our life
An amazing book that gives scientific explanation to the teaching of New Age authors. It might not have been the author's intention to validate teachings of Neville Goddard, Dr. Joseph Murphy, or Annie Rix Millitz, but Maxwell Maltz's explanation of the brain physiological processes confirms the "Mind over Matter" teaching of New Age authors. For instance, to quote from Chapter 14, "And to supply a goal capable of activating your creative mechanism, you must think of the end result in terms of a present possibility. The possibility of the goal must be seen so clearly that it becomes “real” to your brain and nervous system. So real, in fact, that the same feelings are evoked as would be present if the goal were already achieved."This perfectly explains the process of Neville Goddard's "Think and feel from the end result".Book is great as a stand-alone, or as a scientific explanation of New Age methods of visualization, meditation, positive thinking, and many more.Great manual to help self -discovery and self-healing, written in easy to understand language.
