Fascinating book about how to keep your brain healthy
I love my brain. I like that it's inquisitive and creative and full of dynamic ideas. However, in the past year, I've noticed an unwelcome change: a slight forgetfulness or bafflement that seemingly happens to people in my age group; a sort of fogginess that is jokingly referred to as "senior moments". Now, I would be less alarmed if it stopped at that, but as it turns out, it keeps going... and going... and the odds are high that it may later evolve into a form of dementia. Holy %#&*! Yeah, that scared my socks off.I read this book in preparation to see Dr. Dow in a conference in Seattle and it turns out that there is a fix. What we eat affects our brain directly, so healthy eating and getting rid of substances that are harmful (namely sugar, wheat flour, and most farmed protein, among others) have a direct impact on its overall wellness. Dow also speaks of living a mindful, balanced life that includes exercise, adequate sleep, human affection and interaction, and some form of spiritual connection. This program may help those in my age group to significantly reduce their chances of dementia, but it may also be beneficial to people with anxiety disorders, ADHD, diabetes, and many other ailments. What I liked about Dr. Dow's perspective was the clear, easy way of explaining the science behind his claims without it turning into a long, dull scientific dissertation. The book was extremely interesting , I was engaged the whole time, and have since recommended it to everyone I come across. I found it fascinating.

Loved this book! Full of tips and advice for improving your well-being!
Loved this book. Some of the tips and advice described by Dr. Dow are well known but some things I had never thought of or heard about such as the vitamin supplements that will help clear your head and make you feel better. It also opened my eyes to how much "extra" sugar I have been eating thru-out the day and I must say after about 3 weeks I feel much much better. My thinking is clearer and my sleep is better. I know my sleep is better because I have an activity tracker watch that logs your sleep patterns every night. It has been showing more "deep sleep" than what I was achieving before I applied some of the techniques in this book. I even bought a 2nd copy of the book and had it mailed to my daughter in hopes that she will read it and follow some of the advice. I loved the section about how to make smoothies! My wife and I both are now drinking those instead of snacking on foods that aren't as good for us. Overall this a great book for anyone who wants to get healthy, eat cleaner, and live a better life. You cannot go wrong for $17. Buy this book!

Easy to Read. Great, accurate Info. Written with ADHD in mind but not exclusively for ADHD.
It contains some very useful information behind why brain fog affects so many of us and what causes it. I love this book a lot because the science and medical information behind brain fog is summarized to be easily read and absorbed. He also uses proper citation methods, so if you wanted to read more detailed information he has the list of references (books, etc.) he got the info from in the back of the book. This gives the readers the option of digesting as much information as they can handle without being overwhelmed.I also like the fact that the theories and information about Brain Fog is presented first. Then the 21 day plan is offered second it two separate sections. It gives us a choice on what we want to read first. If you know this info you can just skip ahead to the plan, or if you want to make your own plan you can simply read the info and then create your own without being forced to wade through his step-by-step plan. The chapters and topics are also clearly separated so it's easy to find your place and pick up the book if you put it down for awhile. Some of the key topics he focuses on is nutrition for those that experience brain-fog. Which foods help and which foods hurt. He provides a list as an extra feature for quick reference. There is considerable focus on blood sugar levels, insulin resistance, how such things contribute to brain fog, as well as how inflammation is a HUGE factor and how to reduce it naturally through modifications to diet. He points out that his nutrition plan is like a modified Mediterranean diet, so I found it easy to find recipes online that fit his plan without having to invest in any other cookbooks or anything. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is though he focuses on the behavioral cognitive therapy, and the emotional or intellectual obstacles that contribute to brain fog, there's a lot more to that problem than he goes over. I say this after having been through six years of therapy. Trying to turn around the thoughts that are destructive and contribute to the negativity that brings us down daily or prohibits developing helpful habits can be incredibly complicated. What he provides in the book is a stepping stone, and it may require a lot more information or help for many individuals than what he provides. At least, that's what I've found having been diagnosed with ADHD and Bipoloar disorder in my mid-30s. It's been trickier for me than perhaps someone who's in their teens.Overall, I DEFINITELY recommend this book. It's easy to read, the information is solid, and you can use what helps you the most without needing to stick to the plan exactly as described to see any benefits.

Some good information but also a lot of self-help cliches
I'm not a fan of programs that promise life-changing results in a few weeks, but this was okay. It's got a lot of good information on different classes of foods (fats, proteins, etc), stimulants like caffeine, and the types of preservatives to look out for. Ive followed a low carb diet for several years so it was nice to get a better understanding of the effect of this diet on the mind and body. The inclusion of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) principles and some pointers on sleep/wake cycles were also welcome. I don't think the social/spiritual components he mentioned really had a place in this book, though. They seemed more like an afterthought compared to the other areas covered. I think that space could've been better spent on a more in-depth look at CBT, especially since this is supposedly his area of expertise.
