The key determinants that I would rate the material mid-tier are texture and smell. I am a daily user of high quality leather jackets so upon first touch, I could tell that this hat is constructed with some questionable leather that feels like faux leather (or maybe it is). But what distinguish it from hot dumpster fire leather is that it smells decent. Not a single scent of cow turd is present, maybe a tiny bit of burnt plastic smell? The interior is coated with comfortable cloth that does not itch my head.Appearance wise, the design is very appealing. Doesn't make a big head round face person like me looks fat. However, the front of the brim is slightly bent when it arrived. A few best selling novels on top of it nailed out the defect.Wish autumn and winter would arrive soon so I could start rocking with it around again (I live in a country that moist in spring would soak the cloth interior and direct sunlight would probably melt leather during summer. I mean......I have went to worse countries but still, I want a good hat like this to last for a few more decades of use)

First off, this is not real leather. Not even close - very heavy smell of vinyl, even two days later. There is no tag or mark denoting it as leather either. Second, it comes completely crushed and mangled. After two days of trying to straighten it out, I've given up and decided to just return it.Updated to 2 stars as they now list it as artificial leather. Knowing it is artificial leather before you buy means you'll know what you're buying before you buy. Now, had it straightened out properly, it would be a decent hat based on the description.
