Just measured - 793 Hz for me. I felt it in my forehead before testing, and I was correct! Mine didn't sing either until I centered myself and most importantly played it on the floor rather than from my hand.

Will the color on the bowl fade or scratch off?

When I received mine, the paint was already chipped, so, yes.

What wood is used for the mallet?

I really don't know, but the bowl sound is lovely. Maybe contact the seller if it is not explained in the site.

Aren't there laws against selling objects with mercury and lead? Are not these metals toxic and should not be handled?

The item may be forged with mercury and lead but does not mean it's dangerous to touch or use. It is not classified as FOOD SAFE so not sure why you are so worried. As to the other person who answered the SELLER does list this iinfo clearly on the thrid bullet point down. PREMIUM QUALITY - Adopting traditional Nepalese craft, made up of seven metals including gold, silver, mercury, copper, iron, tin and lead. Note it does not mean that mercury or gold or lead etc. will be a free agent to be breathed or dangerous. Lead paint is not dangerous unless you ingest it. Lead pipes are not dangerous unless you change the PH of the water that releases it into the water. So don't eat your cornflakes or oatmeal or popcorn from the bowl. Also why are you looking at singing bowls when all most all are made of similar materials unless you are searching for quartz which by the way are made from quartz which may or may not contain metal minerals etc. Stay safe but use common sense. If your gut or instincts are telling you not to purchase or question the quality of this less expensive bowl don't buy it. Move on to something less dangerous to your senses or understanding at hand.
