Even though you may have read about this Greek God story in school, you may want to check out this graphic novel version.
Even though I had read numerous Greek stories in school, including “Helen of Troy” I purchased this graphic novel version (Trojan horse: The fall of Troy by Justine & Ron Fontes and Gordon Purcell) of this ancient Greek tale. In general the story follows this well-known ancient story's main theme, even though I had read a few other versions of this same tale. This graphic novel is organized into the following sections: The first part (A rotten apple) introduces the Greek Gods and the birth of Paris. The second part covers “The Weary War” and is where the Trojan horse is discovered on the beach. The third part Troy ignores “a woeful warning.” The fourth part deals with the sleeping city, in which they have dragged the Trojan horse into the city. The final part (The towers tumble) deals with the fall of Troy. There is also a glossary guide with further reading and websites. The beautiful full color graphics in this novel are just fantastic. It really makes this ancient story come alive. If you like Greek history and graphic novels you should check out this publication. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: The Samurai Soul: An old warrior’s poetic tribute).

my five year old loved this story
I bought this book for my Star Wars obsessed son who loves all things warlike. I was hoping to expand his horizons and this exciting comic with lovely illustrations has him wanting to hear more Greek myths. Life is hard nowadays for vigorous little boys who love adventure and manliness, it's not a pc way to be anymore (I say this as the mother of three sons and one daughter). As I read this book to him, over and over,at his request, I realized that he was learning some marvelous vocabulary words and gaining an understanding, in a very natural cozy way, of our cultural roots. Why on earth must we sugarcoat everything for children? Some drama and some realistic human behavior make stories more enthralling and thought provoking. I have read plenty of "sweet" children's books to my kids, this one is a little different. I look forward to reading more books from this series to my son and once he has a sense of these Greek characters, to begin looking for some of them in the night sky with the whole family. My 10 and 12 year-olds enjoyed this comic, as well, and all three of my youngest kids and my husband are reading D'Aulaire's Book of Greek Myths now, too.
