How I Spent My Summer Vacation (Dragonfly Books)

I love this book! I use it as a read aloud in my classroom and then they write or draw what they did over the summer. Great illustrations and silly theme.

I buy kids books to read to my young adult son who has severe mental retardation so I look for slightly different things than I would look for in a book for a neurotypical toddler. Both the text and the illustrations worked for us - the story is simple but not too annoying for me to read it frequently. The rhymes are natural and flow nicely. The pictures support the story, rather than being an integral part of the story as they are in some books. Let me take a minute to explain that... in some books, the listener must pay attention to the pictures to "get" the story. I look for books that you could understand even if you're listening with your eyes closed. This is one of those books.

I read this book in 3rd grade as a kid and loved it. Now my kids can read it!

Fantastic book with amazing illustrations! I love just about all of Mark Teague's books as they are well written and the pictures capture the imaginations of my children (ages 5 and 7). I would recommend his other books such as "Funny Farm" as well. They never get old as most parents know you have to read them every night. This is definitely one you will not get sick of.

I am a teacher at the 5th grade level, and I bought this book to show how you can take a personal story and then make it into a tall tale. We were talking about tall tales in reading at this time and in language we were writing personal narratives. I get tired of the same old story about "what I did on my summer vacation", and I thought this was a unique way to expand on that.

This is a very cute story. I used it at the beginning of the school year as part of my getting-to-know-you lessons.

Book came quickly and in good condition. Students loved it!

Great read aloud for all ages. Then you have the kids write and illustrate their summer vacation. It's so funny to see what they did for their summer vacations. Some of them do very interesting things, while others travel, and others just hang out at home.

I mailed this book to my 4 year old grandson who lives in Germany and is being taught about his father's western heritage. My grandson absolutely loves the book and it is one of his favorites now.
