Q: Will this fit in the grommet of the Autonomous Smart Desk 2?

I don't know what the size of the grommet is on this desk but you need a 3.14 inch hole to install it.

Q: Has this issues about miswiring in a number of the reviews been resolved?

Mine had no problems whatsoever, besides that it is a tight fit if you cut the whole according to the recommended size. Works great, robust and stylish.

Q: Is the usb, a 1.0a or 2.1a ?

I would say 2.1a because it charges my iPad while the screen is on. If my iPad is plugged into a 1.0a or less, it won't charge while the screen is on. Note this is just based on my testing; I don't see it labeled on the device.
