From a picky user: great!
So far, day 2... post setup and test, great. It is a little lighter than my previous Epson Workforce, but I wouldn't describe it as flimsy. Well, with the exception of the paper loading tray side rail. That sticks and seems dangerously flexible. It was a joy to watch the ink bottles fill their reservoirs. It actually is a clean and drip-proof loading process... a little scary to invert that bottle of ink and stick it in the receptacle, but it worked! The important thing about the setup is to use their guided smartphone system and follow each step meticulously. I found it was smart to "measure twice cut once". It's tempting to decide you know where they're going and move ahead. Don't do it! Follow each step stupidly and mechanically. It told me the software was up to date immediately. Later, it decided it needed to download an update. Just be patient and follow its laborious thinking process. It gets there eventually. Overall the setup was easy. Print quality, as you would expect, is excellent. I also printed a photograph on plain paper. It was, as you would expect, a little on the muddy side. It objected to using plain paper for photograph, rightfully so. I inserted some glossy photo paper in the supply tray, and it did a good job. Again, the photograph was a 9 out of 10, but this is a home printer. Some reviewers dislike the display. I find it eminently usable. I chose the tile option, and the controls work intuitively, with drop-down menus at each step. Set up of my Android smartphone, my wife's iphone, and my laptop were all pretty straightforward. Again, there was a little confusion about whether my software was actually up to date or not, but it figured that out by itself. The apps work fine. Overall, it seems to be well-designed and high quality. It is quieter than I'm used to. I like the automatic document feeder, the paper supply tray being on the front rather than the back and, of course, the high capacity ink tanks. So far, I'd recommended it. Update: day 4. I spent an hour yesterday on the phone trying to install their computer app on my computer. It was very difficult to communicate with both of the technicians in customer service. They were distracted and didn't seem to be listening when I'd say something. The spoke good English. For example, the easy set up process from day two doesn't get you the latest software. You have to download a package which they don't tell you about. In trying to set up a password, the printer kept refusing. The technician and I kept ending up on a screen that was generated when Epson created one of those long 16 digit passwords. I didn't want to use that, I wanted to generate one I could remember. I explained that and she said tap okay and go to the next screen. When I did, the next screen asked me for my password. Of course, this was the password that was displayed on the previous screen that she told me not to copy. It turns out that when people do copy and paste they sometimes include an extra blank and that slows the whole process down. Instead, they want me to write down a 16 digit password with no errors and then copy it, again with no errors into the next screen. Their software programmer is a little dense. The software also asked me at least seven times for my email address. I got very tired of retyping it over and over again. You would think that, like most software on the internet these days, it would remember my password the first time I typed it and it would auto fill it. No such luck with Epson. The next day I wanted to scan a document to my computer. It kept giving me an error message on my computer that the scanner was busy, even though it had finished scanning. When I called tech support it took 20 minutes to figure out that you shouldn't scan from the display on the scanner/ printer; you should go to your computer and install their Epson scan software and scan using that. In order to get to this conclusion it took us numerous tries to try to get my computer to talk to the IP address on the scanner. It turns out that if you have any other programs open on your computer at the same time it can't do it. Executive summary: the printer/scanner seems to be a good product. The software is unfinished and buggy. It is 15 years behind the times in terms of usability. Good luck!

So far amazing printer
02/13/2024 This printer is amazing at printing both regular documents and pictures on plain paper. I am actually amazed at how sharp the colors are and how clear the text looks. This printer is great for the home or for printing small print jobs such as printing a packet with pictures for a classroom. As of now I am happy with the printer and will definitely update if there are any issues with the product. I haven't tried the scanner that is on top, but so far the rest of the printer seems to work well. The constant connection with the WiFi, the clear print, and the ease to print about 20 pages in color (double sided) in about 8 minutes was noteworthy. My old printer took longer and did not have the same print quality. 03/12/2024 Update: The printer still works very well. The ADf (Auto Document Feeder that is on top of the printer to scan documents) does not scan both sides automatically. You have to manually turn the pages to scan the other side. The ADF can be good if you are scanning multiple documents that are only one-sided. I have been able to get the documents to scan without jamming recently if I put the pages in the feeder carefully. The printer still works as expected as all my sheets are coming out crisp and clear. The print speed works for me as I do other things while the printer does it's job. However, this printer is not meant for those that have to print a lot of pages in a hurry. Instead, it works for the regular home use or for those that have the time to wait for the print outs. Since I am a classroom teacher and I print my things in advance, it is not a big deal to wait as there is always other things to do. Personally, compared to other inkjets I think this is the best option. If you need a fast printer then you need a Lazer printer. Hope this extra information helps. 12/26/2024 It is almost a year since I got this printer and I still have a lot of positive things to say about it. As I explained before, the prints were clear and vibrant. The original ink lasted until about a week ago as I just printed about 24 comic books with color. Before I printed the 24 books, I have used the printer to print out 600 hundred papers with color as well as other projects during the whole 10 months that the ink lasted. Throughout the year I just couldn't believe how I would print out hundreds of papers and it barely made a dent on the level of the ink tank. According to the printer, I made about 6, 632 copies both from the B/W and the Color ink tanks over the last ten months. The truth is, I still had about a 1/4 of ink in the ink tank, but I decided to refill it as I make copies often. As I mentioned earlier, if you need a really fast printer then this is not the printer to get, but if you pace yourself out well and let the printer run while you are getting other things done then it is all good. A couple of Cons that I noticed, but are not a big deal for me personally, are that the scanner on top can still jam at times. Another small annoying thing that happens is that the Epson software keeps notifying me that my ink is low when I literally just filled it up. However, the notification is not a big deal as it is easy to ignore and doe not effect the printers performance. Hope this helps.

Refurbished is the way to go!
I bought this model for several reasons. 1. To replace HP forever, I've been held hostage far too long. I've had nothing but problems with my 8710 and they didn't start until the day after HP said they no longer will offer support for that model. Convenient right? 2. To avoid HP demanding we use expensive ink and bricking our ability to use non OEM ink cartridges, making ink virtually unaffordable. This Epson did most all of the things our previous HP did. I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg so I bought the refurbished. I noticed right out of the box it was much lighter weight, smaller than our previous all-in-one. The print tray felt a little flimsy, and the top feeder was also light weight flimsy plastic feel. It is tall and looks well designed. Everything looked absolutely brand new and operated brand new. Ink was new, printer was taped like a new printer and packaging all new. If I didn't know it was a renewed, I'd think it was new. The one thing I will miss is a touch screen, but I'm getting used to the one on this Epson, but there is a learning curve and I'm not fully happy with the screen, oh well. You can do everything online as well if you want to change settings. This screen is not a deal breaker or a star changer. The setup includes a CD (I did not use this) or you can download straight from Epson (what I did.) There is also an install manual in the box which I appreciated. The online download got me the latest software and drivers. It took a little longer to set up the printer on all of my computers/devices than I had hoped but they all worked perfectly, even my phone. It connected to WiFi as expected. The longest part of the process of setting the alignment, but it was very easy. Five test pages to insure proper alignment. The alignment took about 10 minutes after about 5 minutes of the ink filling. Then we printed a test. Print quality is excellent. Sharp, vibrant and professional prints. I have it connected to a desktop, an Android tablet and phone and an HP laptop. I love the fact I can do remote printing, this will help in some instances. It didn't print as fast as my old printer but I didn't expect it would. It doesn't print slow though. Filling the ink tanks was simple and failproof. I'm so thankful to have this option now for ink. I'll not have to beg people not to print so much now! Oh the savings! It scanned from the printer to the computer and from the app on the computer requesting the scanner to scan. Top feed worked well for multiple pages and we also scanned on the flatbed which worked. It seems that the scanner software was much better than HP's. The automatic document feeder (ADF) is working as it should. I noticed you can configure the printer online too. I didn't bother with that option and won't unless there is some issue I can't figure out. The double side printing capability is handy. Inkjet Photo Paper both matte and glossy look great. Cardstock works just fine as well. It prints quiet, so in the other room, it is hard to detect if my print job is going through. I'm sure there may be a quiet mode but if there is, it doesn't need it. It has an email to print function which I didn't test yet, but I'm certain that works well too. I'm saying goodbye to my HP and I'm pleased with this purchase so far. If anything happens I'll update this review but for now, the little annoyances are little and the Ink Tank for me is the prize of all prizes!

A good, inexpensive printer
I've only had the printer for a couple of weeks; but so far I am very happy. I have a very expensive HP printer that works well; but the cost of ink has gotten extremely high. I went to an Epson EcoTank printer to cut the cost of the ink. I bought the printer and a full set of backup ink for less than just the 2 sets of ink for the HP. The print quality is very good. Both printing and scanning are faster than my expensive HP printer. I would have given this printer a 5 star rating except: * the first time I turned it on I got an error with the advice to clear the jammed paper. * the first 3 times I turned it on I got that error. However, I have had to turn it on and off many times do to lightning storms and it has worked just fine since the initial problems. The little window to turn the printer off, do copies, settings, etc: * very small * has a very clumsy interface * physically hard to work with I will admit, my cell phone has a touch screen; my tablet has a touch screen; even my laptop has a touchscreen. The printer does not. It's difficult to remember I have to use arrow keys on the pad next to it. All-in-all I am very happy with this printer; so-far...

An Enthusiastic First Look: The Epson EcoTank ET-3850
After hearing about the high cost of printer cartridges for years, I decided to make the switch to a cartridge-free model. My initial experience with the Epson EcoTank ET-3850 has been "so far, so good," and I'm genuinely impressed with its promises and performance right out of the box. The setup process was much more straightforward than I anticipated. The biggest step, and the one that felt the most different, was filling the ink tanks for the first time. The bottles are designed to be spill-free, and they have a unique key for each color, so there's no way to put the wrong color in the wrong tank. It's a surprisingly clean and simple process—just invert the bottle, and the ink flows into the tank until it's full. Once the tanks were filled, the printer guided me through the rest of the setup, from connecting to my home Wi-Fi to installing the software. The Epson Smart Panel app on my phone was particularly helpful, walking me through each step with clear instructions. Beyond the initial setup, the printer has already proven its worth. I love the fact that it comes with enough ink to last for a long time, which feels like a huge value. It has all the features I need for a home office, including the ability to print, scan, and copy. The automatic document feeder and the two-sided printing functionality are also fantastic, saving me a lot of time and paper. While I haven't put it through its paces yet with a huge volume of work, the test pages I've printed have been crisp and clear, and I'm looking forward to not worrying about running out of ink anytime soon. It feels like a solid investment that will pay off in the long run.

Epson EcoTank ET-3850 Review 2025
Setting up the Epson EcoTank ET3850 is a straightforward process that I found particularly efficient for a home office environment. Here’s a detailed overview of my experience: Simple Setup: For an easy start, simply scan the QR code on the screen. After using an office HP printer with a wide range of options, I struggled to find a home printer with similar features. The EcoTank ET3850 meets all the necessary requirements—except for a touchscreen—but its overall functionality more than makes up for it. Initial Preparation: Before beginning, remove all the tape from the package and fill the no-mess ink reservoirs. The software plays an essential role in getting the most out of the printer. Download the Epson Smart Panel from the App Store or Google Play, and configure your computer to your home network, preferably using a secure WPS connection. Also, download the Epson Print & Scan app on your computer. Online Registration and epsonconnect Setup: After installing the apps, register online for the epsonconnect printer setup. Once logged in, you’ll see your unique Epson Printer email address, which will appear as a combination of letters and numbers ending with @print.epsonconnect.com. Although this email address can be changed, it remains separate from the email address you used to register. This unique address is crucial since you will use it to remotely email documents to your printer. Additional Tips: To print, ensure you press “OK” to activate the print button on the control panel. If you just wake the printer from sleep mode without following this process, it will not execute the print job—a mistake I nearly made before realizing the importance of this step. Many negative reviews seem to stem from operator error rather than a fault with the printer itself; proper setup is key. Renewed Purchase and Final Recommendations: Purchasing a renewed unit is a sound choice, as the full warranty remains in effect once the printer is registered online. Our experience has been very positive, and I believe you will be too. Keep in mind that, like any mechanical device, the parts and electronics may eventually wear out. Before you unbox your new printer, I highly recommend watching a quick YouTube video on unboxing and setting up the Epson EcoTank ET3850. This will save you time and give you a solid understanding of the printer’s features. If you found this review helpful, please consider giving it an upvote. Happy printing!

Awesome Printer, Refillable Ink, Great Support, Supper Fast Shipping.
Rating: 5/5 Stars I recently purchased the Epson EcoTank 3850, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. From the moment it arrived, this printer has exceeded my expectations in every way. First off, let's talk about shipping. I was pleasantly surprised to receive the printer two days earlier than expected. Despite the absence of original packing, the printer arrived in pristine condition, thanks to the environmentally friendly packing material used in the box. Setting up the printer was a breeze, and I was particularly impressed by the seamless network connection process. Following the instructions on my phone, I had the printer connected to my network in no time. Exploring the features of the Epson software was a joy, and I was especially delighted by the scanning capabilities. Almost everything works as expected. However, I did encounter some connection errors when attempting to use the "Scan to Computer" function manually. I believe it has something to do with my computer's Firewall settings. One of the coolest features of the EcoTank 3850 is its email printing functionality. Epson provides the printer with its own email address, allowing anyone with that email to send documents directly to the printer for instant printing. This feature is a game-changer and has completely replaced the need for a fax machine in my workflow. Last but certainly not least, the refillable ink tank system is a game-changer. Say goodbye to overpriced ink cartridges! With the EcoTank 3850, I can enjoy significant cost savings over time and reduce waste by refilling only the ink colors I need. In conclusion, the Epson EcoTank 3850 is a true powerhouse in printing efficiency. With its intuitive setup, impressive features, and cost-effective printing solution, it's a must-have for anyone seeking a reliable and eco-friendly printer. I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new printer.

Terrible WiFi Connection, Bad for constant B&W printing, but ok overall family workhorse.
Purchased this refurbished in December 2023 ("like new") -- the printer hadn't even been opened yet. It has been a 3.5/5 experience since. TL;DR: We have now received the wireless "Contact Epson Support" message-of-doom for the 11th straight day (equivalent to the Windows "blue screen of death"), so we're done with the printer. No, you can't restore default settings for the 11th time, it is what it is. This is also a very well known issue to Epson, who suggested we get the wi-fi board replaced since apparently that is the actual issue once you eliminate the wi-fi itself. Well, that is what we told them when we contacted them 3 months after owning it, 6 months, 8 months, 13, 17, 20, and now. They refused to replace the wi-fi board any of those times, but now, when we are 2 months out of warranty, they suggest that is exactly what we do. Kind of irritating, but that's what life is like today, isn't it. We're moving on, but I wanted to give everyone the rest of my opinion about the printer (below) -- some good, some mixed, all truth. I hope everyone else has much better luck! 1/5: Connectivity. This has been a problem since the start, remains the biggest issue with this printer. It drops, it gives you error messages constantly telling you the SSID changed, that it can't find the router, that the signal is poor, that it must be the middle of a blizzard in the 90 degree heat because there is no possible signal it's all snowed between it and the router -- whatever it can think of not to work. We tried hard-lining it in, we tried putting it close to and far away from the router, near and far from walls and metal -- we literally tried everything and nothing at all worked. We have an incredibly powerful wireless connection in the house, but this thing wants what we cannot provide it -- what that is, we will never know-- it will remain shrouded in mystery. On that note, here are the other scores for the other things that people care about in a printer: 2/5: Quality of regular B&W documents. I was shocked (and still am) at how terrible B&W documents look on "normal" setting. I don't think I should have to print on the best setting all the time and waste ink. This is a pigment v. dye ink issue, but to be honest, spare yourself and if you are printing loads of B&W, get a $50 laser and use that for all your B&W needs, and keep this printer for everything else. 4/5: Quality of most color documents -- when printing on Best Color, Top Quality paper. We do print otherwise, but the curve starts to fall off fairly rapidly. That said, if you are a TCG proxy person and have read this far -- yes, this works fantastic, get the Koala Matte and you're good to go on Prem. Matte, Best Quality setting. Do not use Semi-Gloss setting or paper. In addition, a helpful tip: let the ink have time to dry when the paper first comes out, ESPECIALLY if it's dense on the paper/photo paper. 4/5: Paper. You can use almost anything up to a point--we did use up through Koala Sticker (Matte), but cardstock jams, so YMMV on that. If you are a high risk, high reward type of person, have at it. I will say that often it will dododooo print, and then you get to the bottom 1/4-1/5 of the document and whamo, it'll jam the heavy paper-- like I said-- this printer likes to keep things shrouded in mystery. 3/5: Ease of use for Mac users. Air/wirelessly prints. The Epson apps are junk, cannot install drivers well onto the Mac computers, so you are left with the default printer options, which are pretty *terrible*. That said, overall, it functions, it prints off all of the Mac devices 85% of the time error-free, and these days, that's something. 5/5: Ink refill. Very simple. You do not need ink refills very often. By on-brand, refill carefully and cleanly, and you will have no issues. Keep them topped off to avoid all the weird tank problems people note. We've left the thing idle for 3 months without problems, but YMMV as always. 4/5: Maintenance. Overall, relatively simple, but updating the firmware has been a complete nightmare -- it can take 4-8x trying before it will actually update, and even then.... ehhhh.....Also make sure you run a full cleaning + realignment every quarter even if you don't need it because that's what keeps it healthy. 5/5: Aesthetics. It's really nice to have such a compact all-in-one that is also very aesthetically unassuming. Make sure you pull the feeder tray out before printing, but the paper tray's capacity is great. However, please note: this printer IS NOT QUIET no matter whether you have the "quiet setting" turned on or off. It also shakes like the 1906 SF quake no matter what surface you have it on.
