Great set. Great price. Not top of the line, but not a cheaply made set either.

This is my second whittling kit, and I was impressed with the selection. It comes with a large variety of tools, to whittle just about anything. I particularly love the quality leather bag that the tools come in. The bag has a strap, so you can throw it over your shoulder or wear it crossbody to take it anywhere. The bag is perfect for taking your tools on the go, and whittling wherever your heart desires. The tools do not come particularly sharp, in my opinion. The kit does come with a stropping set, which is perfect to practice your sharpening skills. I don't feel like it's particularly unusual for woodworking tools to not come perfectly sharpened. Part of woodworking is learning how to properly sharpen your tools. I would advise anyone who is just beginning in whittling, to cruise YouTube for some good sharpening videos. Look at it this way, even if your tools came perfectly sharpened, with some use they're not going to stay that way. You may as well get comfortable with sharpening them yourself. The handles of these tools are well made, and comfortable. I do believe that regardless of the user's hand size, the handles are well proportioned. I certainly did not experience any hand cramping while using them. Overall, I feel like this whittling set is a perfect set for anyone from a beginner to an intermediate whittler. It has about all the tools that are needed for any any project you would desire. The tools will need some sharpening, but that's a good skill to practice. I would definitely recommend this.

I'll preface by saying I know absolutely nothing about woodworking, so I can't really speak to the quality or potential longevity of these tools. At some level, I'm not sure that it matters whether these are top grade tools, as I look at it as sort of a beginner's kit for someone who may be interested in woodworking. If they develop a love for the art, they can always upgrade to higher end tools. With that in mind, I think this set makes a fantastic gift for the right person, and I was impressed with it. The handsome leather case alone could justify considerable expense – it looks, feels, and smells like quality leather, and I would expect someone could continue to use the case even if the tools themselves were replaced. Little things like the use of leather rather than elastic interior straps will likely translate to longevity. As to the tools and accessories, there appears to be a vary nice assortment that should be sufficient for the new woodworker to determine whether this will become a new hobby. Overall, I think this would make a fantastic gift, I would be pretty happy to be on either end of that transaction.

I was prepared to be underwhelmed at such a high price point. I'm absolutely stunned that I think the price is warranted. Stunned. The tools themselves are made with exceptional steel that takes an edge like a champ and holds it reasonable long depending on what wood your project requires. The handles are really nice too. The leather case it all comes packaged in is really, really nice. The strap is a great addition so you can go full Hemmingway and jaunt off into the woods to carve in the field. This kit feels right at home next to a campfire. The sharpening tools are not just a cheap add-on. They are of a high quality like the rest of the kit. I love this set.

I'm a knife nerd. Now, that being said, I am very aware that you could easily pay $100+ for a single woodcarving knife, let alone ~$250 for this set of many more. Obviously this isn't meant for a snobby friend who is into woodcarving and already has a setup. With that out of the way, the build quality, for the price, is fantastic. The knives are RAZOR sharp. The handles are extremely comfortable. The leather case they come in feels luxuriouos itself, as it is, unlike many things on the internet, real leather. Opening the box and the knife roll is an experience in and of itself. These also come with a sharpening strop and stropping compound, which is a nice touch. The only defect I could find was some excess glue coming out from where the tang of the blade was glued into one of the handles. Other than that, these are absolutely awesome and you should buy with confidence.

The leather bag came all beat up with creases in the leather and the knives were very dull and will need sharpening... If I hadn't relied on these for a job I was doing, I would have returned them. Amazon would not send me a new set in lieu of me returning this, waiting for a refund, repurchasing, and waiting for the new delivery hoping for better quality. Also, I was not able to contact a seller. I was told by Amazon that this was new, but it was obviously used. They told me that it came from the warehouse so they couldn't guarantee its state. But, the item appeared as if new when I added it to my cart. I was not happy with this purchase. If only they would have addressed this issue, I would have given 5 stars... Quality matters at this price point.

I wouldn't recommend this for beginners because it's a rather expensive set. If you are unsure whether or not you'll enjoy wood carving, I would go for cheaper sets. But it's a great upgrade if you enjoyed wood carving and are looking for better, bigger and more durable knives. The knives come in different shapes that can be very useful depending on your carving. Some were more or less sharp, but the good news is that this set comes with a great strop you sharpen your blades for a long time. The wooden handles aren't bad, but maybe could've been a bit more aesthetic. However they fit well in one's hand and you feel at ease when you manipulate the knives. Of course, do not let your knives out in the open as the leather and wood that are part of this kit will react badly to water, sunlight and humidity. It's a high quality set overall, a great gift for those interested in wood carving! I've been carving wood as a hobby for several years and I really like this set.
