Cracking book on coastal foraging
Love this book it's great, just what I was looking for, I'm getting into all kinds of wild edibles, plants, mushrooms, berries, but I was looking for something dedicated to seaside and. Coastal foraging and found this book. It's got a good list of plants, seaweeds, molluscs, crustaceans all of which can be found and gathered around the UK coast. There are two pages dedicated to each wild edible, useful information on where's best to find it, what months are best rules and regulations that you may need to know on minimum sizes they must be before you can take them away etc,What months to avoid certain molluscs, where about in the UK you are more likely to find them and tips on what to look for.It also tells you how to prepare and cook the wild edible and also has a bonus recipe section at the end giving ways to cook some of them.I've already been out and identified wild plants listed in this book, im looking forward to getting out soon to find some periwinkles and mussels, the book could be taken with you in a backpack or could even fit in a large raincoat pocket. If your looking for a book on seaside foraging then I recommend this, well written and presented, good photography, lots of information.Pleased with this book.

Happy Hunting!
A good little book to get your imagination flowing next time you visit the coast!I have always been interested in foraging and bought this book as a taster for what we could gather on the seashore, it does just that and is well laid out and contains a wealth of information. I will probably be most interested in the seaweed and shoreline plants section as everyone knows what shellfish to eat etc. whereas most people (including myself) wouldn't have a clue about which plants to eat that grow right next door!It is worth mentioning again that wherever you are gathering seafood and shellfish you must know the water quality is adequate (there is a handy map made my the environment agency I think from memory) and also that you shouldn't gather shellfish in the warmer months of the year, as a rule of thumb, any month with a R in it is okay.Happy hunting!

a good start
we bought this book because we no longer want to buy sea vegetables imported from Japan after Fukushima nuclear disaster and hoped to source them locally. this book is a good start; it's very good to understand the background ideas, laws, regulations and risks in harvesting from seashore, contains very good photos that help identify species, includes information and recipes how they can be cooked and eaten. however, we feel it could list more species. after couple of very pleasing harvesting travels, we are already beyond the book's content in some ways. for example, we have tried and found some of other common seaweeds such as bladder wrack and serrated wrack are also edible and actually very tasty, but not included in the book as edible species.

A coastal forager’s go to!
This is a must have book for any lovers of foraging, the coastline in the U.K. has amazing free and nutritious produce which this book helps to identify. I have only had this book for a month but already enhanced my ability to locate and prepare ingredients such as sea kale, mussels and more. If you love foraging this is a must have for your collection.
