These are a must have for any sketcher or plein air painter.
I didn’t know these existed until a teacher in a class listed them in materials list. They are wonderful! There are 3 different hardnesses- HB, 4B and 8B (2of each) with a nice sharpener all in a metal box. They are so fun to use- I use a travel watercolor paintbrush to activate the areas I want and leave the areas dry that I don’t need a wash or blend. Nice quality- I recommend them and would buy them again.

Great for Watercolor Artists
These pencils are great for drawing on watercolor paper for sketching out the planned painting and then, as you blend colors, they soften leaving no hard lines!

As expected from Derwent
These are good and work just as expected for water soluble graphites.

Fantastic for washing over line drawings.
It is a very enjoyable experience to use a pencil to draw or sketch a line and then go over it with a wet brush.

Derwent vs. General
I've used these Derwent pencils and the comparable General's water-soluble graphite pencils. Derwent has three shades of graphite but the General pencils are capable of the same range but have greater depth and darkness than the Derwent. However, because the General pencil can be so dark, they are harder to control than the Derwent with its Light, Medium, and Dark shades. When I go out to draw and I only have space for a few things, I choose the Derwent Light and the General pencil – and they work really well together. With either, it will erase so-so when its dry but not at all once it's been activated. Due to it being a little bit harder of a pencil, the Derwent holds a better point which is so helpful in detail work. Derwent is also a little cheaper per pencil (at the time of this review, the General are about 20c more per pencil than the Derwent) and because the Derwent are harder, they last a bit longer.I'm not associated with General or Derwent and definitely did not receive any products for free.

Got these for art class
They’re really good I love how smooth the pencils are and how big they are. I also let my professor borrow them because she likes how big the pencil is and how comfortable they are so it’s a really cool pencil that I recommend any drawing artist or any artist that loves shading use these pencils they’re really really good.

Not super impressed
These did not perform exactly as I had hoped. They did not fade out very much when wet.
