Very well made
It seems somewhat expensive for what it is but the quality is so with it. It’s made from a flexible steel that allows it to bend slightly on uneven surfaces. One of the best tools I’ve ever owned.

Nice little square!
Light weight, but sturdy! Has metric measurements for those projects built in metric.

Quality Tool
The sashigane, or Japanese square, is not going to be for everybody. Mostly because it’s metric! But I’ve been forcing myself to use it just to become familiar with the metric system. It’s very accurate and true. Its flexible with a reinforced corner so it won’t fold or crease there. I’ve been using Japanese hand tools for quite awhile and this is just another tool that you would need so if you’re looking for one, this won’t leave you disappointed.

It's metric!
Somewhat delicate. I'm not recommending it for the construction site or your tool box. I dont think it would stand up to the abuse. It hangs in a special place near my bench and is treated with respect, unlike my framing square which I do not trust. So hard to find a metric square in the US, but i like this one. Has some other gradations, possibly Japanese, that i do not recognize and are not useful to me. 5 stars because it seems to be well made of fine material.

Wow!!!!
This is lighter and tougher than my English square. It is semi flexible and works great. The finish is what I have come to expect from Japanese products perfect. The lines are clear and easy to see.

so a beam is easily registered against an edge
This is a stainless steel japanese carpenter square. Stainless steel, well build. Has two scales, one is metric, second one is traditional japanese. The short beam is slightly longer than 10" (25 cm), the longer beam is about 20" (50+ cm). It's flexible, so a beam is easily registered against an edge. Because of this it's very convenient for dimensioning furniture size panels and boards.

This ruler doesn't have the sun scales
I bought this hoping to get one of the more traditional squares that had both the metric and the Sun measuring systems on it and I liked that it was a more flexible square. It is indeed a flexible and pretty sturdy square and the metric scales are legible and very usable. This one appears to have done something similar to how the backside features of the traditional square with sun measurements is supposed to do, except this one appears to be redesigned so that the circumference calculator and other features are adapted to the metric scales only. I could be full of beans though, I've never worked with the traditional japanese scale and haven't anyone about to help explain it more clearly, even after trips to youtube. I am therefore still a novice with this ruler and I actually rarely work anywhere near large timber construction so maybe I still need to learn a good deal more about using it and interpreting the backside features. For me this is a bit of a learning experience. I'm a bit ocd about collecting rulers and squares I don't necessarily need, like Metric rulers in the U.S. where nobody gives you measures for it. I seem to get everything from slide rulers to folding ones that catch my eye with this ocd. I guess I am looking for the more perfect measure or just interested in how others elsewhere do things. My point would be to be absolutely sure of what you are getting because this company shinwa appears on the face of it to have a lot of different versions of this square.
