Get this and a memory foam mattress topper to make the best "hybrid" mattress ever
First and foremost, I find some of the negative reviews hilarious. No mattress under a thousand dollars will be expand, to the nearest eighth of an inch, exactly the advertised height advertised. This mattress, although advertised at 12 inch, in real life, will expand to about 10-11 inches. I am not sure what is people's obcession with the exact height of the mattress (I understand that it doesn't meet the advertised height, and that can be annoying). But I think those people are missing the whole freaking point of this mattress. Simply, It's a really affordable, well built and firm to very firm spring mattress, which is really good for heavyset people. I don't expect the springs or the mattress to develop the dreaded "pit" from me, 250lb guy, laying in the same spot every night anytime soon. I was actually looking at a bunch of those "hybrid" mattresses, which are basically a spring mattress and a memory foam topper all rolled into one. They were so expensive, and all seemed like they used such a soft spring mattress layer, that they wouldn't hold well for me. Enter the DIY version. Just get a nice and firm or very firm spring mattress of your own, like this one, and boy does this one work. Add a 2-3 inch thick memory foam mattress pad to it, and maybe a quilted mattress cover/pad to hold it all together, and for less than $500 (depending on pricing), you have a "hybrid" mattress that can rival just about anything up to $2k. You get a nice, reliable, and supportive firmness from this spring mattress, and with you memory foam, a soft, contouring layer, that's not so thick that you feel like you're laying on warm sticky honey. After 8 months of this combination, I can say that, for me and my SO (120lb girl), that it's the best sleep we've ever had, and likely one of the most comfortable beds ever (and I've slept on tempurpedics, which all seem to feel like you're sinking into hot sand). I am a back and sometimes side sleeper. She is a side and sometimes stomach sleeper. I think this combo accommodates all positions reasonably well, but especially for side sleepers, who need firm support, with some give.

NOT HOT! Cooler than foam, Med. Firm, edges okay
This mattress does not sleep hot; I wouldn't say that it is actively cooling (but so far I have yet to find an actual mattress or pillow that is, although I do have a water mat that is), but it doesn't retain much heat at all, and sleeps so much cooler than any of my memory foam mattresses. I purchased it hoping that the inner springs would allow for a cooler sleep, and I'm very pleased with the lack of heat retention; I've had this mattress 5 days, and I haven't once woken up needing to move to a different spot from the heat, which I was doing many times every night with memory foam mattresses, if I didn't have my cooling water mat on top. I haven't yet needed the mat on this, as the warmth it retains is pretty minimal and non-invasive. I would consider this medium firm at most, but it's pretty supportive and comfortable, and I don't wake up sore in my knees or back. The edges aren't super solid but, unlike other reviewers, I don't have a problem sitting on the edge.

UPDATED: A good mattress for the price...worth buying !
UPDATE: I’m starting to hate this mattress. It’s TOO firm. at first i thought it was okay it was comfortable. I wasn’t sleeping too well at first but i thought that was due to my old pillows i had. Well i bought some new ones and it didn’t help. And my quality of sleep got worse. I toss and turn all throughout the night. It’s like sleeping on a futon. There’s no contouring. It’s just flat. If you’re looking for an extra firm mattress, this is for you. Otherwise look elsewhere. Very disappointed... I wanted to write a review for people like me whos first time it is buying a mattress or just looking for any new cheap mattress. I have never bought a new mattress before and was confused on where to start or what to look for it. I came across this mattress on random hybrid mattress Google search and saw the reviews for it were pretty good. The only thing that kind of turned me off from it were the reviews that were stating how firm this bed is. I received the bed fairly quickly and set up was easy. I did wait for the full 72 hours to sleep on it to make sure that it was fully expanded. I personally didn’t notice much of a smell but it did smell like how you would imagine a new mattress smells just plasticy. so let’s just get right into it.. yes this mattress is firm. But I would consider it medium firm. It has the softness from the pattern on top that doesn’t make it too firm. I slept on it for the first time last night and it was very comfortable. this is definitely an upgrade from my all spring mattress that I’ve had for the past 10 years. The support is there a comfort is there the mattress does not get hot. my only complaint would be I do kind of sink but the support is still there if that makes sense it’s a little weird. also it didn’t expand to the full 12 inches I definitely recommend this mattress for someone who was looking for a medium from supportive mattress. Don’t expect anything too soft to come from this mattress. like I said it is not too firm but you are definitely able to put a mattress pad on top and get away with it. I know this is long sorry I wanted to be thorough for anyone who was like me and was lost on what mattress to get. I will update in a few weeks to see if my mattress still holds up to the first couple nights.

So nice, I bought it twice!
I will preface by saying, my friends call me the “bubble girl”. Meaning, I have so many allergies and sensitivities that I should live in a bubble and be safer. So I’ve been terrified to get a new mattress since my Sleep Number became toxic to my allergies after ten years of happy sleep. I found this Swiss Ortho sleep 12 inch after much research EVERYWHERE. I was looking for a hybrid, thinking there’d be less foam for me to react to. I wanted OEKO-Tex certified, for obvs reasons. And I wanted as plush a bed As I could get without a thick foam complement. And as my title states. Not only does this mattress fit the bill, I just bought another one for my guest room because it’s so perfect!! I did let it sit and breathe/off gas/whatever for a week and a half before I put it in my room. And it isn’t actually what I’d call plush - I bought an organic cotton mattress topper from Lands End to pad it. It’s comfy on its own! I just like a little more give (remember, I slept on a mechanized air mattress for the last decade, lol.) Still though! No weird creaks, no hurting pressure points and best of all! No smells! No waking up in the night allergic and gasping for air! It’s just the best, esp for this price :) My first one was about $400, my second one was about $200. A steal either way. If you have any allergies or sensitivities like I do, truly look no further. I have not had any of the issues some have mentioned. I am not a tiny girl, yet there has been no sagging. The corners are still straight and unbowed. IMO this is a wonderful mattress.

So comfortable
This mattress is really good! It’s super comfortable and gives great support. Since I started sleeping on it, I wake up feeling rested and without back pain. The quality is excellent, and I’m very happy with my purchase. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good night’s sleep. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's a solid bed. Solid Rock.
This was the second worst bed in a box we've ever had. It was also the second bed in a box we ever had. First one was supposed to be meeting firm but we called it the marshmallow bed if that tells you anything. This one we wanted to go with firm so maybe it would actually be a solid object. Well, it was solid all right. We called it The Rock. Felt like we were straight out of Flintstones cartoon. We open it up, we let it inflate for 48 hours instead, and then we noticed that one end of it hadn't fully expanded. Well, that's not true. The whole thing hadn't fully expanded. It's supposed to be 12 in mattress and it only got to about 10 1/2 in, but one end of it only got to about 9 in. If you sat down on it too hard you beat the clock together so make sure you got good dental insurance. Within a year it had softened up. Good, right? No. Still doesn't soft because it doesn't seem to have any kind of padding over the springs that's why it was so hard. But once the springs got a little sprung, that's all you can feel. You said on the bed and you feel springs. Instead of in bed you had a sprig poking you in the butt. And it doesn't wear evenly. I mean it's not like there's an indentation on my husband's side and there's an indentation on my side. That would make sense. It would still be crappy for a 1 year old bed, but it would still make sense. We don't spend a lot of time sitting on the edge of the bed or setting up the head of the bed most of our time in the bed is laying down. It's a bed. That's what it's for. This bed has what I call sinkholes all over it. A spot here that if you land on it, you're sinking down. Then, a few inches away, another sinkhole. And it's like that all over the bed. And that one end never did expand.

Excellent from the start!!!
My bedroom’s ordinary size & my old mattress is still on the floor beside my bed, so I’m not sure how well these pictures show. But a few things to say. I received this at 12:15-ish in the afternoon, this afternoon of writing. It’s now nearing 3pm by a few minutes. A close friend of mine, set it up alone in about an hour, having to rest for long minutes at a time in between. I think the worst part is that it’s a hugely heavy mattress. It sure is. Unmovable for anyone or ordinary or weak strength alone. It simply unraveled out of the over-outer plastic covering and then we cut off the inner layer plastic, all while it was on the steel platform bed. It began expanding as soon as it was out of the first outer plastic so we had to get it out immediately of the second binding to finish expanding. This full expansion was taken at just 1 hour & 20 minutes about but it basically had nearly full expansion after 3 minutes. Amazing! In an hour & 20 minutes though — I bought a 12” very firm queen — it got a lot tougher in quality of fullness over the top. It is presently growing just over 10” now. I have to double check though, I might have actually only bought the 10”. I’m not sure right now. It doesn’t matter, it seems a fine height to me. The instructions say to leave it alone for 48 hours. I might leave it alone longer. I’m looking forward to trying it during the coming week. It’s a Friday afternoon now. As for odor, I’ve finally had a chance to understand what possibly the awful stories are about in part. There are two medium sized desiccate packets born into the inner locked compression plastic binding the mattresses from unlocking. I had no odor throughout the unpacking, until we unlocked the final plastic and found the two desiccate packets. Then there was some typical odor like that — a chemical picking up the odors if whatever it’s wrapped in. My friend doing the work didn’t smell anything. I sprayed Febreze over it & it also made the Febreze smell like the desiccate, so that’s definitely part of what’s at work with all these odors. It’s a shame, because different mattresses are made with different cloth closing materials & desiccate will give any clothe a chemical odor. But it’s nothing really that needs to be noted except that I wanted to comment on what I’d learned. Right now, the light, lingering faintness of it isn’t going to last past my Febreze spray from an hour ago. Right at this moment anyone walking into my apartment would probably only notice Febreze. So I hope to update this next week after I’ve slept on it, to find how it’s comfort is — should turn out be an excellent firm it seems; very hard to find type besides. And also to relate what size I bought & how large it expanded after so many days of waiting. A year and a half later…. The mattress has been excellently firm over the past time and never really caved anywhere significantly. It’s still firm and very comfortable. This is with regular night to night use in that time. About now only I’m starting to notice that where I sit sometimes propped up with my electronic device working, it’s taking shape of a smaller less firm indent. Only slightly.

Didn't hold up
So I bought this mattress a few years ago and it's not bad. I like the firmess and the encased coils make for a pleasant sleep experience for someone who doesn't like a mattress that's too soft. It expanded to the correct size and height and there wasn't an unpleasant smell. It was very comfortable and a good price. That said, it didn't hold up. Within the first few months, the foam on top started shifting and no amount of adjusting position would move it back into place. I've turned the mattress (NOT flipped it) so that the bottom was at the top and vice versa in hopes that the foam would adjust back into the correct place and shape, but no luck. As time has passed, there have been more compressed spots in the foam and I'm already looking for another mattress due to the dips For reference, I'm an average sized woman and I'm not doing anything odd in bed. I'm disappointed that it didn't last since it was very comfortable, but I guess you get what you pay for.
