Uncensored American Werewolf
This version of An American Werewolf in Londonis definitely restored version of the movie. I remember watching it in the theater and renting it in VHS. Why anyone thought it was okay to corrupt the overall presentation of this movie with such heavy editing is beyond my understanding. The DVD that I bought in the store for $5 turned out to be an unrestored version. With restored version you get the full thematic flair of the director and the humor restored to where it maybe understood.

Excellent movie
Great story, awesome picture quality. I also like that it fills the entire screen. A lot of jump scares.

The Best Transfer Available For Sound And Picture
This is a Blu-ray review only. For a film review, any number of talented reviewers have covered the film here and on the old DVD pages. This film has been released multiple times on DVD and on Blu-ray in nearly all of the major markets and, as it is one of my favorites, I have many of those editions. For the record, this new high definition transfer, as found on the Restored Edition released in 2016 by Universal, is far superior to the previous editions, most notably the Full Moon Version that I watched too many times. The Restored Edition was encoded at a higher bitrate using the modern encoding format of AVC (MPEG 4) rather than the, usually, inferior VC-1 format (though this format does occasionally look amazing). This edition, consequently, treats the viewer to red reds, rather than the previously slightly orange reds, and black blacks, rather than the previously grey blacks, and a nice amount of detail and texture that was missing from the previous US and overseas editions of this classic. If you are a fan of the film, this is the version to splurge on, as it represents the highest available quality for this film. Given how old the film is, be advised that it doesn't look a summer blockbuster, there are some scenes with clear softening and some moments in which colors do feel flat as compared to a comic book adaptation or cartoon. As to sound, the best source available was used on the previous Blu-rays so this track is the same and, as before, sounds wonderful as compared to DVDs and VHS copies. I don't believe they will be resourcing an audio track, given how well this track turned out and how difficult it would be to find a better source than the one used so, for all intents and purposes, this is about the best you will find. That having been said, this is most likely the best this film will look for at least the next decade and, possibly, even after that and, in comparison to all my previous editions, it is like a gift from heaven. They have done a beautiful job, given the state of the celluloid stock today and the look of the film when it was brand spanking new. Good luck in making your choice.

"ANOTHER ORIGINAL TALE OF LYCANTHROPE HORROR FROM THE 80's"!
"AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON" was actually the second of two werewolf horror thrillers that were released in 1981, the other, being Avco Embassy's "THE HOWLING" quickly dominated the box offices that same year-but "AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON" was another original horror movie made with then-state of the art makeup special effects that are extremely superior. directed by John Landis ("ANIMAL HOUSE", "THE BLUES BROTHERS", and "TWILIGHT ZONE, The MOVIE") the thriller focuses on two American citizens back-packing in the British moors, and stopping at a creepy pub in the middle of the British countryside called "The Slaughtered Lamb" where the two young lads encounter unfriendly and obnoxiously "gothic" Brits who cautiously warned the two to "beware of the full moon", which proved futile and results in a deadly attack by what appears to be an unusually "strong" wolf, resulting in the mauled and gory death of one of the boys-and the survivor, played by David Naughton, revives in a London Hospital and treated by a lovely and caring British nurse, played by Jenny Agutter ("LOGAN'S RUN", "THE AVENGERS") where an intimate relationship occurs- but David's deceased friend returns from the dead, in a rotting body, humorous, but warning David to beware of the full moon, and telling him to kill himself before his feeding frezy which will transform David into a murderous werewolf with a hunger for flesh meat-and the impressive special effects used to show the scary transformation from a concerned boy into a deadly lycanthrope with a big taste for blood and flesh just makes this movie one of 1981's top contenders for sci-fi horror, tying highly close to "THE HOWLING" but a bit more superior! "MUPPETS" voice actor Frank Oz also appears in this thriller, which used vintage rock music versions of "Blue Moon" to enhance the mood over this original and unique take of Lycanthropy, especially under John Landis' expert direction. I gave this movie a five-star rating for originality and some sly humor, but all around good fun-albeit gory, but still a very interesting piece of great entertainment!!
