Not your average Christmas romance
I was all set for the normal, will they, won’t they, Christmas romance. It really surprised me. A great book.

Romantic but ultimately sad
This is definitely a romantic read but it was rather sadder than I was hoping for. Still, a good read.

Heartwarming and heartbreaking
I came to this book via recommendation and I'm so glad I did.I don't usually read romance novels and hadn't realised that – judging by some of the reviews here – there are so many rules about what supposedly makes them 'work'.What makes Always... so special is that – just like life – it defies the rules. We meet two fully rounded people with fully-rounded problems and challenges and we follow them over the course of a year through the highs and lows of their lives together and apart. What could have simply been a cosy Christmas story is elevated through clever writing and a story that doesn't go where you expect it to - and it's all the better for that.A wonderful read - heartwarming, heartbreaking and thoroughly recommended.

…….keeps you wanting to read ‘just one more chapter’
I absolutely loved this book! Well written and an incredible debut novel. The characters came to life and not just Josie & Max but also each of their respective friends & families. The story carried me along and I was constantly telling myself ‘just one more chapter’ before giving in to sleep.I loved the highs and lows and the second layer relationships were also intriguing. The story is both heart warming and equally heart breaking and I shed quite a few tears. Can’t wait for this author’s next book

Too long but enjoyable
I loved the characters and I really enjoyed the book but at 424 pages it was too long as it was overly descriptive about where the characters put their hands when talking or where they were glancing, which got tedious. If this had been more succinct I think it would have been a better read. I also felt it implausible that all the chances Max - and everyone else -had to tell Josie the truth were dashed. I felt like telling them to ‘just say it!’ That said, it kept me captivated - a page turner! - but it isn’t uplifting. It is sad and the ending brought tears to my eyes. I really didn’t want it to end the way it did. It has left me feeling a little downbeat. Certainly not a cheerful Christmas read.

Not a light hearted read
I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written and the pace of the story was good. I liked that we joined the characters for a few days and then caught up with them again. The book deals with some pretty heavy themes, such as death, grief, attempting to move on. But I think it was all dealt with well. The book didn't end the way I expected it to. But I think I prefer this ending, it felt real and it left Josie in a better place than when we met her.

Great book..enjoyed it until the shocker at the end
The book was great-really enjoyed the story ...however ,as others have said-maybe not uplifting as the description states...the ending was not at all what i was expecting(or hoping for)...however,i guess that's real life at times . I do still recommend the book though and am looking forward to reading the next book out from this author. Advice...have an open mind :)

The best book I have read this year
I honestly don't know where to start with this review, but I know I have to write one because this book deserves it. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, I fell in love with Josie and Max, and all of their family and friends. But this book did something that few books make me do. I sobbed. The writing was so good and the emotional pull so strong, I honestly blubbed like a baby. This is a book that is going to be staying with me for a while. A stunning debut.

Definition of living to the fullest
This is a love story based on how life can pass by in a moment and how it’s up to you how you choose to live it and the people you spent it with

*4.5 Stars! An emotional read!
I love novels about chance meetings and serendipitous moments, so this one definitely caught my attention.Always, in December is emotional and exudes a great deal of heart. I was invested in Josie’s life right from the beginning. She was likable and it was so easy to be on her side, hoping for the best for her.As I mentioned, I love chance encounters, especially those that end up meaning more. Josie and Max had a great, memorable first encounter, which led to a special beginning to their story. Their story wasn’t a smooth one. Oh, no, this story had its share of turbulent, highly emotional times, and I was glued to the pages, experiencing all of their moments right along with them.I really don’t want to say too much about the storyline for fear of giving too much away. I must admit, though, that I had a certain part of the story figured out pretty early on, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. Always, in December is beautifully written, emotional, and I felt every part of it right in the pit of my stomach. I was always anxious to find a few peaceful moments to curl up with these characters and lose myself for a little while.I highly recommend Always, in December to any reader who’s looking for a novel that will make you feel a gamut of emotions, one that will tear you down, build you back up and, in the end, fill you with hope.

Christmas tearjerker
This month was my turn to pick the #literarylovelies monthly book, and I felt a lot of pressure to pick a good Christmas book! I chose Always, in December and while, it was sadder than expected, I do think it was a great discussion book! This was an emotional book from the beginning and a welcome departure from the saccharine sweet holiday novels we all love. Josie and Max meet each other in a chance encounter and have a wonderful Christmas weekend together. He sneaks out and doesn’t leave any contact info. Over the year, they keep running into each other and they rekindle their relationship, but it has it‘a issues. I don’t want to give too much away because it’s one you should just trust. Both Max and Josie make some bad decisions, but their characters were very real feeling to me. I loved both their families and especially Josie’s best friends, Laura and Bia. I was extremely impressed to find out this was the author’s debut novel. I’m really looking forward to reading more of Emily’s work!5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not what I expected
If you are looking for a light-hearted love story this is not the book for you. This is much much more and although the ending took me by surprise it did seem a more realistic conclusion. A wonderful book which is bound to have you in tears. Will definitely read Emily Stone's next book "The Last Gift"

not uplifting at all
I was deceived by the description of the book. Prospective readers should be warned that this story is not uplifting at all.
