Terrific Story
Having watched the first episode on Prime a couple of time - I was just waiting for the series to be sold on DVD. It does not disappoint. David Morrisey is wonderful as a Roman General, the scenery is terrific and the legeonaries fear is palpable.

**WARNING** Very Addictive series.
I had seen clips of Britannia on social media for a while so thought I'd see what all the fuss was about and buy it, I thought I'd just watch the first episode to give me a feel of what was to come later on? One healthy beard growth later I came to realise that I must've missed some parts because there is so much happening at once, So I'm going to have to watch it all over again from the start. This series is phenomenal and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to Everybody.

Brilliant !
Just loved this series saw it on TV before I got the box set.Gory at times but that is what it was like in those times us Britons were a rebellious lot! The actors give it their all and the locations were spot on. Divis is a joy so funny as the outcast Druid gives some light relief from the battles. Zoe Wannamaker is a great actress and portrays Queen Antedia really well.I could go on so.many good performances. Binge watched it all again. Recommend.

outstanding
Britannia is a character driven story, anachronistic to be sure, but massively entertaining and all about interactions with the many Gods of the iron age. The Donovan tracks for the main music score is all about making it a bit more folksy as opposed to the dramatic sword and sandals tradition. If you know your history of the Romans in Britain it is a fun interpretation of what we now know about how the Romans returned to Britain - invasion...maybe..supporting allies and extending the empire being another view...

A brutal imagining of Britain's loss of Innocence
What happened to the people who thinly populated the main island of Britain after the Romans invaded in 43 C.E.? This series imagines the cultural shock and military defeat of the Brythonic-speaking Brits as the sandals of oppression stamped down on them. Morrison is oddly cast as General Plautius Aulus, a real historical figure, but his dark, jokey demeanor soon settles into the role of elitist oppressor. The support cast is great, and the storytelling treads a line between historical fiction and fantasy, drawing the viewer into a forgotten chapter in British history. Druidism and fear of the gods is a fascinating theme throughout. My enjoyment grew as series one unravelled, although there was a resigned acceptance of the mores and types of the TV series genre. Hey ho, the wind and the rain, and the well chosen hurdy gurdy man song of bard Donovan.
