On a Turning Tide: Volume 16 (The Cliffehaven Series, 16) : Dean, Ellie: desertcart.in: Books Review: Wow! This is the 16th book in the series and the story is still fresh and exciting. Ellie Dean has a wonderful style of writing that can be both dramatic or humorous, sometimes at the same time, and you get a real feeling of WWII and the effect it had on the population. It is going to tough waiting for August as the war winds down for this intrepid group. Review: On A Turning Tide written by the super-talented Ellie Dean is another great work of historical fiction based on the lives of Peggy Riley and those who filled her boarding house. With this book, we are brought back to the time when Great Britain is finally reaching the end of the Second World War, but for Peggy Reilly and her many loved ones, Cliffhaven is still not safe for her family to return too as Hitler has still not given up his reign of terror as the V2 flying bombs are reaching her home town. Yet there is so much going on in the lives of the residents of Cliffhaven, I was constantly entertained throughout as the action never stopped! This book brought this time in history alive and through this work of historical fiction, I was able to fully understand how this time affected those who lived through this time. This book held so much within the many pages filled with the wonderful writing Ellie Dean is famous for, as she showed the good and bad of those people who resided in Cliffhaven, the bravery of those men and women who were based in Burma and so much more also not forgetting the bravery which was shown by those who kept the home fires burning during this time in history. As always with Peggy and her friends you are shown the personal loss of the Second World war and the many sacrifices made on a daily business, but as always there are those who wanted to make money from the hardships which were showered upon the British people through this time in history. I have loved every book in this wonderful series, this is the sixteenth book and I do consider this one to be the best as with each turn of the page I was able to see through Peggy and the other characters how they saw the ravages of war and how it affected them personally. As with the past books in this wonderful series, Ron is my favourite character as he has so many sides to his personality from bravery to the fun times he showed them all, especially when the very shaggy and loveable Harvey is involved he had me gripped throughout. Every emotion was involved with this book and I have to say that Ellie Dean brought each emotion alive through her excellent writing and once again I thank her for writing a fantastic work of historical fiction. Happy to recommend as it is a wonderful book from the first page to the last I simply could not put it down.

This was another well written book, yes a fiction story, however so many parts of this book I could place as having travelled in previous trips to the South Coast of England. This book from the beginning page keeps one in suspense. It will be a sad day when the series concludes.
