The CT101 is an easy to use, touch screen thermostat that works with standard HVAC systems. This unit has universal compatibility, 2 stages of heating and cooling, and a large backlit display that is easy to see and use. The precise comfort control of this thermostat controls systems from single stage heating to multi-stage heat pumps with auxiliary.

Great for Z-Wave ... with a significant flaw
I bought this thermostat to add to a moderately sized automation system: 9 lights/wall outlets, a garage opener, and now, a thermostat. The good news: The device was easy to connect to my HVAC system, and supports separate RH and RC wires. (Great for older homes where central air was an afterthought.) It also installed easily in my Vera system (paired to a VeraEdge). Vera's menu of devices didn't include the CT101, but it had the predecessor CT100, which was good enough to recognize and install the device. I can view and operate the thermostat remotely, and scenes that control the thermostat work as programmed. While not exactly 'beautiful,' the thermostat blends well into the room and doesn't scream, "Look at me!"I can't really comment on the battery life yet. I bought a demo model from one of the Amazon retailers, and it came with less-than-new batteries: they started up at 66%, and are now at 64%. However, I did a bit of programming and experimenting (see below), which required pairing and unpairing the device a couple of times, as well as a couple of device resets. I'm not sure how this affects battery life. I plan to get a set of lithium batteries and replace the unknown ones. I also went into the Vera app and changed the device's 'poll at most every {} seconds' value from 60 to 300 (5 min.), which is more than fast enough for a thermostat. I might even set it to 10 min. at some point.###############UPDATE ON THE BATTERY LIFE: I ended up using Duracell Quantum AAs in the CT101, rather than lithiums, as I already had some for the door locks in the system. I put a set in near the end of July 2016. The set temperature is changed 4x per day by Z-Wave 12 months a year; and overridden manually 1-3x a day during summer and winter months by pushing buttons on the display. As of Dec 31, 2017 the device reports the batteries still at 44% charge, the display is bright when it needs to be, and the thermostat never fails to work with my Vera system. I think that's more than acceptable, and has kept me from the bother of trying to add the fifth (C) wire to the furnace control.EPILOGUE: I had to reinstall this device for an unrelated reason. This time, it came up with a default polling of 10,800 sec. -- 3 hours! I think this is too long, but clearly Vera has chosen to err on the side of battery life.###############Now the bad news: I bought the CT101 vs the CT100 because it was both a Z-Wave *and* a programmable thermostat. My intent was to program the CT101 with the same information that I set in the VeraEdge. This would act as an automatic backup, in case the Z-Wave controller fails. Well, it turns out that this isn't possible with the CT101. Once the device is paired in the Z-Wave system, it never automatically unpairs -- even if the Z-Wave controller is disconnected for several hours! The only way to return to programmed operation seems to be to unpair the device. In talking with tech support, it sounds like there is an alternative method set through Z-Wave commands, so that the CT101 can revert to this new program when a Z-Wave signal is missing, but neither RTCA nor Vera have an application to support this. So, all the usable control is through Vera scenes; and the CT101 doesn't work so much as a backup program as an alternative if one decides to eliminate Z-Wave from the house. If I had known that, I would have considered the lower-cost CT100.

Works as expected
I use my CT101 with the Hubitat Elevation hub and it's working well. Wiring was pretty easy because I have a simple HVAC system although I did have to call in my HVAC folks to get heating to work - I picked the wrong type of heating system. I can't blame the CT101 for that. It's not the prettiest thermostat around but that wasn't important to me. No problem with the Z-Wave connection and Hubitat which was the important item for me.

Version 9.0 has known bugs
Apparently the manufacturer does not think they need to fix their bugs - buyer be aware.
