Capoeira: History, Philosophy, Practice
I am the founder of the Seven Schools and NIne Families Of Capoeira with on the way to 30 years involvement ( 27-28?) in the art of Capoeira and many more years in martial arts. This book is the book the was by my bed nearly 30 years ago and which I read and re-read inspiring me on my 'pilgrimage' and path of initiation into Capoeiras rigours and malandrage...Reading it helped me get through my twelve hour factory shifts to earn the money and get to Brasil, where I wanted to and did meet the late (Grand) Master Joao Pequeno...it was inspirational then and it is now. A balanced historical perspective, tempered with sage analyses of styles, practitioners and thoughts. It is wonderfully poetic, yet concise and rigorous. When I met Accordeon, he was not in the best of moods somehow, so lost his chance for me to compliment him by being put out and dismissive, that took him down in my estimation sadly, but he is a brilliant writer and great Capoeira Master and this is as much a must as it is possible for a book to be on an art of being, living, doing.
