I purchased this for a friend that talked about this series, and he is really enjoying it, having watched it several times through!

why don't they make Westerns like this anymore?
Sure, we have "Yellowstone," which is good, no, great! But unlike that...The Yellow Rose is a family show. No F bombs, no outright sex scenes, and the love of FAMILY is so evident here, unlike the other two competitions shows, Dallas and Dynasty, in which everyone had it in for one another. I cried at the end of the series...and a couple of episodes, too had me in tears. It hasn't been mentioned in the other comments here, but Ken Curtis (Festus on "Gunsmoke") and Noah Beery, "Rockford's" dad, add so much to this series! Buy this, treasure this, only the one set of 5 discs and like any good Western, the good guys rode off into the sunset, with a prayer that, like I said, had me in tears.

Great series until final episodes
Loved it until final episodes, they covered every dark subject possible. Didn't match up at all with start of series.

A DARN TOOTEN GOOD TIME
I purchased this series because of my continued love for the acting skills of David Soul. (Sam Elliott is a plus!) I don't remember this TV show, which was another reason I bought it. I have enjoyed watching two of my favorite male actors in jeans, full western gear, cowboy hat, chaps, boots and riding high on a horse. The storyline is okay, maybe a little 'sweet' for some. It does get gritty, especially with the entrance of Chuck Connors and legendary actress Jane Russell. Some other classic "cowboys" are in it, too. Overall, I'd recommend this set to others, if only to gaze at Soul and Elliott!!!!

Gone Too Soon
I remembered seeing this TV series advertised back in the early 1980's but never watched it until I bought the complete series from Amazon recently. I really enjoyed this show and especially liked seeing Chuck 'Rifleman' Conners as the nasty main villain Jeb Hollister. All of the Champion characters are very likable as are the two crusty old geezers who hang around with them. It would have been nice to see a second season where Jeb Hollister makes a comeback to further bedevil the Champions and the characters played by actresses Deborah Shelton and Kerrie Keane, who escapes being murdered, returns to battle over Roy. However, if there was a second season of The Yellow Rose, Cybill Shepard wouldn't have starred in Moonlighting and as a result, Bruce Willis may not have been cast in Die Hard.

Fond Memories
As there will no doubt be comparisons betweeen this and the likes of Dallas, Dynasty and the likes, I still think this rates even higher, and the one thing about a show that is not given a fair or decent chance to run to allow itself to build an audience, is that it gains respect and more attention over time. (So, two fingers up to the network!)Dallas was of course, the main US slice of family sagas, and I for one, never missed it, Dynasty however I wouldn't touch with a bargepole, simply because I didn't like it. But when this came along, I loved it just as much, but somehow I knew it wouldn't last.I fancied not Cybil at the time by the way, but their daughter, LC, played by Michelle Bennett, (I was only thirteen when it aired), and after all this time, I am considering getting this just to bring it back. I don't really remember many of the episodes, only a few, but I know that there was a stellar cast and a who's who of guest appearances, so it might be worth it.Glad this is finally out on dvd, and can now be appreciated again, but I wish they wouldn't use that as an excuse to make the charge so high.
