Miffy the Artist Lift-the-Flap Book

I ordered this for my 2 year old and she loves it. You know a book is a success when she sits through the whole thing. The story is very basic about Miffy visiting an art gallery then going home and creating her own art. But I think sometimes the simple stories work best, especially when there are flaps to open (sometimes 4 on one page!). My daughter loves books with the flaps, so it's not surprising this was a hit either. It is much larger than I expected (I apparently did not pay attention to the dimensions) about 10x10," but it was a nice surprise and a good change of pace from her usual 4x4" board books.

I like this book that connects to art. Art is an important content of early childhood education.

This book is large and fun to read. The pictures and text is simple. My toddler loves Miffy and loves this book!

Love this book

I love Miffy the Artist for its bright color and simple renderings, but there's some fun foundational art concepts in there as well. On the first page, we see Miffy contemplating a wall mural or installation piece at the museum. She has her hands behind her back, comforted by looking at a bunny motif with which she connects. It's a powerful image of self-identity through art, and a good example of motif. On the second page we see Miffy bewildered at the sight of a Calder-esque mobile, but the texts tells us she "liked" it. We see Miffy and her mother compare and contrast similar works. Miffy notes something she'd never seen before...a blue sun. Miffy takes the experience of her museum visit home with her. She creates her own gallery, working hard before going to bed tired, knowing she's a real artist too.

We love miffy and in principle, there’s nothing wrong with the story. But there’s not much reason for most of the flaps to get opened, as it isn’t necessary to read the story (we open the same shape 4 times on the first page, see all 4 crayon colors being tested partway through and the last page we open 2 flaps to see her crayons on the table. Not relevant to the story beyond “she got her crayons out” and “she put them down”). Wish they made more sense, the flaps are okay quality and have held up better than other books but I suspect it’s bc my toddler doesn’t care to see what’s under them.

A glossy, high quality book, with lovely illustrations and lift the flaps. Suitable as a keepsake for years to come!

Beautiful book! Bought for my 21 month old little girl for world book day to go with her miffy outfit, and she loves it! Lots of interesting flaps to love, good size book and she loves the story of miffy looking at art and then becoming an artist. Bigger than I expected it to be, very colourful and great for little ones.
