Modern discussion of the philosophical aspects of the Scottish Rite degrees
Excellent work for Scottish Rite masons. Detailed discussion of the philosophy of the degrees with a more modern slant than Pike's works.

An Interpretive Study of Overall Themes, Quests, Meanings, & Teachings of the Scottish Rite
Paraphrased from the book's reference section:"This book was written to help bridge the gap between the more formal language, cultural understanding, and historical settings that existed when these degrees were originally penned (18th Century) and their practical application to contemporary life of men today. The philosophy, ethics, morals, and civic lessons presented by the Rite are as important, significant, and relevant today as they were in the 1700's. There is no reason for there to be a disconnect between ancient teachings and contemporary life."While this book is "authored" by Robert Davis, he acknowledges that it is really a collaborative work with the Educational Council of the Guthrie Oklahoma Scottish Rite Education Board - including the recently departed (and amazing) Jim Tresner."It is not an academic treatise on the history of the Scottish Rite, or the origin of its Degrees, nor a treatise on the meaning of the many symbols, colors, numbers, words, regalia, and settings presented in the Scottish Rite's rituals and pageantry. It is primarily written for those who have received their Scottish Rite Degrees in the United States - Southern Jurisdiction - and the Degree titles, legends, and teachings represented in this book do not apply to every Scottish Rite Mason - especially not to those no longer connected to the French Rites from which they came."

The Journey of the Elu to Enlightenment A Contemporary Interpretation of the Teachings of the Scottish Rite is a very good book to have.

An excellent handbook on becoming a "correct and upright Mason"... the Scottish Rite way.
I bought this book as a side reference to our group study of Albert Pike's "Morals & Dogma"... It has been a very illuminating guide to Pike's commentary and the degrees of the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction. In my opinion, this is an excellent study guide and companion to Pike as well as the SR's handbook, "A Bridge to Light." Very clear explanations on the key lessons within each degree.
