Great quality and price

Great design, made of aluminium , illuminated and also works in wired mode if neededMuch better than the Logitech (metal and plastic, does not work in wired mode , illuminated ) and the Apple (metal , not illuminated Touch ID) . The Satechi when brought it was also almost half the price of the Logitech and much cheaper than the Apple . £45 vs £80 vs £100.The feel of the keys is great despite reading in reviews they are mushy ( they are not) there is a bit of light bleeding which is not great but does not bother me.

An excellent keyboard

This is a very high quality, great keyboard.Having tried both the X3 and the W3, I would say that this (the X3 bluetooth version) is slightly better the W3 (the wired-only version) in a couple of ways, but also worse in one way which may matter to you.In terms of ways in which the X3 is better, firstly the W3 has only 3 brightness levels where the X3 has 10. (Although in fairness the 3 levels on the W3 are still well chosen, and the darkest not too bright.) Secondly (and slightly weirdly), on the W3 then £ and # symbols are printed the wrong way round on the 3 key. Since this is basically a US layout keyboard, the # symbol should be printed at the top of the key, not to the side, corresponding to the symbol accessed when pressing shift, as is done on all the other numeric keys on the W3, and indeed as is done on this keyboard, the X3, which has the same layout!) Related to this, I slightly prefer this keyboard, the X3's, key labelling over the W3, as on the X3 they don't include the ALT (€ and £) symbols on the 2 and 3 keys at all; I prefer this as omitting these symbols makes the keyboard look just a little neater and less cluttered. The one major downside to the X3, if you're the kind of person who regularly uses Del/F2/F12 to break into the BIOS menu, is that the X3, *even when used in wired mode* cannot consistently do this, and (not always, but often, half the time or more) causes the BIOS to report that there is no keyboard attached. (The W3, as would be expected of a natively wired-mode keyboard, has not such problems.)To point out one more (minor) imperfection shared by the X3 and the W3, the lighting on these keyboards is just not quite as beautiful as the lighting on a real Mac laptop keyboard - specifically, there are small overly bright spots here and there around the keys, where the light shows through too much, rather then the really uniform lighting around the keys on real Mac laptop keyboards.Nevertheless in build quality, in looks, and even in the above-mentioned quality of the lighting, this and the W3 are _way_ better than any of the (several) other illuminated external keyboards for the Mac which I have tried recently.

Great keyboard

This is the best 3rd party keyboard for Mac I've used. Buttons feel good, solid construction. For the price it is a great alternative to the very very limited Apple offer.

Satechi Slim X1 Review

I've only had this keyboard a day but so far it's really good. I'm coming directly from the Apple Magic Keyboard (full size), and while this does feel different it's about as close as you're going to get.The keys have a tad more travel, it feels like one of the older MacBooks circa 2010, which isn't a bad thing. The backlight works well too, there's a little bit of bleed around the keys as well as the actual letters lighting up, which I think is by design rather than a technical limitation. It would have been nice to have a UK keyboard layout option, but it's not the end of the world. shift + 3 is the £ sign if anyone is wondering. The build quality is very good, it's up there with the Apple Magic Keyboard. The grey colour of the keyboard doesn't match the space grey of the Apple magic keyboard exactly, it's a slightly lighter shade (see attached photograph). It doesn't bother me as I'm using it together with an Apple Magic Mouse which is black on top, but I could see it being an issue if you were looking to colour match to the Magic Trackpad.Connectivity seems good. It paired with my M1 Mac mini with no issues, and wakes the computer from sleep just fine. The keyboard can be paired with up to 3 wireless devices, and can be used wired as well. I haven't encountered the issue with the keyboard not being recognised at the login screen, or with key presses registering more than once - which was mentioned in a couple of the other reviews. It all works fine for me.The function keys labeled for screen brightness don't seem to work though. I have an Apple Thunderbolt Display connected to my Mac mini, and using the same keys on my previous keyboard adjusts the screen brightness. I don't know if I've not set it up correctly or something, but the rest of the function keys work fine and do as you would expect.Over all I'd give this keyboard 5 stars. While it's not perfect, the price is reasonable and I think the score needs bumping up a bit as it should be more than 3/5. Until Apple decide to make the space grey Magic Keyboard in the smaller size, this is the nearest you're going to get.

Nice typing experience

Experienced a couple of issues with build quality but Satechi were really helpful in putting right. I've bought two of the X3 and use a space grey at work and a silver at home, both a real pleasure to type on and look the part. A worthwhile alternative to the Magic Keyboard.

Perfect With A M4 Mac Mini

I didn't want to throw money at an Apple one as they're ludicrously expensive, they also don't light up (like this one does) a function I find really helpful when working in low light. After having a Mac keyboard for the past 20 years or so, I can honestly day that I prefer the keys touch on this keyboard. It's really sturdy aluminium (like the mac one) and feels very well made and put together. Charged it over a week ago and still going fine after being on at least 8 hours a day. Highly recommended!
