Ares pop rivet gun
I currently use a Mason at work but needed a pop rivet gun for my shop at home. I took the pop rivet gun to work and it worked great. The first couple of rivets the gun had some new tool stiffness. I gave it a little oil and it worked great. Some have said it took too many squeezes but I pulled the stem through in 2 squeezes in 2 layers of sheet metal with 1\8 x 1\4 inch long rivets which is totally acceptable.

Easy to use, sturdy steel construction, good value.
Well made economical tool. The red "head" is machined aluminum. The bolts are grade 12.9 (high strength alloy steel). The remaining structural parts are steel. Arms are "U" formed steel 0.1" thick with a overall cross section of 0.77" x 0.63" and 10.5" long with dual durometer polymer handles. The black is softer with more grip. The knurled tension nut is threaded on and uses a set screw on a shaft flat to lock in place. Overall tool length is 13" with a mandrel installed. The 6 optional threaded mandrels are easy to change using the included tool. The rivnuts provided are aluminum. It would be nice if a drill size chart were included. I purchased 6mm 304 stainless rivnuts that require a 9mm hole. There is an adjustable stop for setting compression. However, there are no depth settings specified. It requires developing a "feel" of the handle force to get proper rivnut compression which depends on the gage of metal and the rivnut. You might start with the handles open to 90 degrees when rivnut compression begins. Then fully close the handles. I suggest doing a practice sample or two to get your set up right before committing to your important job. It worked nicely with the stainless inserts. It all packs in a handy carry case with outer dimensions 13 1/4 x 9 3/4 x 2 1/2".

On par with truck brands quality/service.
I work in a body shop and I have been buying tools on Amazon for a while for two reasons. 1: I am too cheap to pay the inflated truck brand prices and 2: I am trying to show the other guys there are good alternatives to them. I bought the ares riveter and in every way it rivaled the ones they bought off the truck at a fraction of the price. After two weeks of daily hard use the "biting" mechanism broke off. I contacted Ares and they immediately sent me a replacement without hassle. That was the other guy's main concern... Yes they may be good quality but we get a lifetime guarantee with ours. Well I have now experienced how Ares stands behind their products and can easily say it is without compromise. If you need professional quality tools that are guaranteed to work without the insane price tags then stop looking and buy Ares, you won't be disappointed!

Price vs quality
Well they’re not terribly bad but they’re definitely not for professional jobs. As someone who has to use these type of tools often, there’s a big difference in these vs a CherryMax G28-G30. The quality doesn’t seem bad, but as others stated, it jams often if the stem of the rivet doesn’t eject which doesn’t just slide out after use like the higher end competitors. With this one you have to kinda wiggle it and fight with it a bit to eject the stem. And unlike the G28-G30, it’s not really a one squeeze and done. It takes a couple of squeezes and readjusting to fully “pop” the rivet stem out. The handle will get stuck half way if you’re between squeezes on the rivet which I find annoying since it won’t grab the stem again until you fully extend the handle. These are good for home small projects because of the price, but if you’re looking for something more professional, you’re going to have to spend more to get that quality, hassle free tool.

Well built and dependable
Update: This rivet gun has worked perfectly for the last 8 years! I have put thousands of rivets in (t bar) and it never let me down. Last month, I lost the little "c" shaped keeper ring that holds the center pin in place, and I bought the same rivet gun again! Next time I am at the hardware store I will buy a new keeper ring!Original review...I bought this to replace my worn out arrow rivet gun. This gun looks and feels like it is well built. Today I installed about 200 rivets and the gun worked perfectly each time! I'm sure that eventually it will wear out, but I plan on putting in a lot of rivets in the meantime. Happy with my purchase!
