How do you remover catolitic converter

Pull old one straight out of fireplace, nothing holding it in place.

Does this have a gasket for sealing around converter?

This combustor does not come with gasket and unless you have a lot of space around the combustor gasket will not be needed.

Have only had the unit for one heating season so can't comment on durability or lifespan.

Does this converter include the insulation wrap?

Good Morning, The catalyst you are inquiring about does not come with a gasket. However, we do offer pre-cut strips of gasket that you can purchase separately if you need it. It is important to keep in mind that the gasket does expand when heated so you don’t want to pack a lot of gasket around the outside of the catalyst as you risk damage to the catalyst as well as your stove. Not only that but, a catalyst does not have to be air tight in order for it to perform properly. Plus you want to be able to easily remove it in the off season to clean it and most of the time when you remove it the gasket just falls apart anyway so you have to spend more money to replace it. Unlike water, smoke will follow the path of least resistance, so the amount of smoke that goes around the catalyst will be very minuscule. My rule of thumb is, if the gap around the catalyst is a ¼” or less there is no need for extra gasket. If the gap around the catalyst is more than ¼” then I would recommend wrapping only one piece of gasket around the catalyst. good fit, increased air flow

Just installed last night. I like the thin walled stainless steel combuster cells better than the ceramic because they allow higher flow of smoke through the combuster. My stove calls for an 18X3.6 inch combuster even though the holder in the stove is 19 inches wide. I also purchased SBI baffle insulation blanket 0.5 inch material and cut pieces to plug the gaps on each end. Last nights fire was great, I could look up and see the combuster glowing orange and producing lots of heat. Very impressed so far.

Smaller than OEM - Unacceptable as delivered

The manufacturer, Condar, states that this item is a replacement for the the manufacturers catalytic combustor. Fortunately, I measured the OEM combustor and the Condar replacement before installation. If used like the OEM part, this part, because it is 3.5" tall, vs the OEM's 3.75" height, it would bypass significant air poluting smoke and produce much less heat and waste firewood. Both these contradict Condar recommendations. Undoubtedly the CS-453 would violate the emission limits of the federal standard without undocumented corrective action by the end user.Besides Efficiency, Longer Burn Time, Safety, Save Money, and Reduce Air Polution, Condar literature states, IT'S THE LAW:"Federal law requiresin all jurisdictions thatcatalytic woodstovesbe maintained andoperated withcombustors to reducepollution over theentire life of thestove."This maintenance and operation is not possible with the combustor and support provided by Condar. Condar apparently uses this statement to threaten potential customers that the customer will break the law if they do not purchase a Condar product, yet when that Condar product would violate the law, Condar will not act to remedy the violation.I have not installed the unit and am awaiting Condar's response to corrective suggestions. This review will be updated upon Condar response. If the response does not correct air-quality issues for all future purchasers, the unit will be returned.UPDATE: February 17, 2012I have sent two E-mails. Condar technical and customer service have received the E-mails (read receipts) and have failed to respond. Condar's promised telephone call did not happen. I have received no response of any kind from Condar. The item will be returned.I recommend that you avoid doing business with Condar.
