peace of mind and amusing
due to previous health issues with the Dog breed that I bought I went for the full package, the dog was screened for associated illnesses of his breed, which I was able to share with my vet.

Excellent DNA test
Great test, showed the breeds we knew about but didn't believe along with a few others. Also gave accurate colouring and coat description despite not uploading a photo. Finally, the medical tests showed a couple of problems - one that won't affect him but could be passed on, and another that may become a problem, good to know. The only downside is the slight amount of spam for similar products included in the test that the company sends whilst waiting for your test results - but you can always unsubscribe. Overall, comprehensive and worthwhile.

Comprehensive, well-rounded DNA test for your pets or breeders’ needs but please include DM and EIC.
After June 2023 update, number of health tests increased from 206 to 264 and I was happy to see that colour dilution is now included (3 variants whereas a competitor test for 2 variants). UK version of the Premium test comes with 4 conditions fewer than the US test (264 vs 268 genetic predispositions for illnesses being tested). The ones that are missing are the ones that are more common in popular dog breeds:• Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)• Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC)As well as slightly less well-known:• Episodic Falling Syndrome• Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (Discovered in the Labrador Retriever)These conditions are available with their partner test mydogdna.com (270+ genetic health tests; not to be confused with dnamydog.com) but I wanted to enjoy also relative finder so I didn’t opt for this test.Things I like:• Sample collection was super easy and it uses dried swab (this is quicker to dry and thus more reliable to get a good sample than a cotton bud).• Courteous and prompt customer service (I got replies within two business days).• Results came quickly, less than 3 weeks after I mailed the kits.• Chromosome painting ala 23andMe where you see on which chromosome a particular breed has been detected. I didn’t expect this level of detail!• Test is affordable, this goes on sale for £95 or lower.Things I would love Wisdom Panel to include:• Ability to download raw data would be neat.• An app.I have done my research before buying the tests and I found out that for mutts that are very mixed, test’s results need to be taken with a pinch of salt. So instead of showing that the dog is a supermutt, WP will attempt to get the closest breed which may produce unreliable mixes, but at least this is more interesting than saying that this is a mixed dog. With that in mind, let’s discuss the results of two dogs we tested. We thought that Geri was a mix of Belgian Shepherd (Malinois) and Central Asian Shepherd. Her results were a bit of a surprise but consistent with being Belgian mix (but crossed with a German Shepherd).Test also found out that Geri has 1 copy of genetic variant that codes for “floppy ears” (Partially floppy ears more likely). This is spot on, we nicknamed this dog “floppy ear”!Freki is a mutt with unknown father and a mutt mom, although we had a hunch that his mother was mixed with dachshund. Freki’s results included 18 breeds. This is as expected because Freki is so mixed. I think there is still value in trying to decipher these breeds as long as customers understand that a value of say 10% of less may be more of a noise than actual recent ancestry.Top breed dachshund is as expected, I would believe that chihuahua and German shepherd dogs are also roaming in our village. I am not aware of any Segugio Italiano so I would be more sceptical about that one.We found out that Freki may have “Slightly shortened legs”. We can confirm that is absolutely right and it is amazing this can be found out by DNA alone.

Interesting and easy!
Loved this test kit, so easy to use you just need to swab inside your dogs cheek & the kit comes with a prepaid envelope to post the samples. You register the code online and wait to be contacted. It took about 3 weeks for them to process my dog's samples and then I was notified of the results. The good thing about this test is that it checks for genetic markers of disease/disorders and also helps you find your dog's relatives as well as the breed. My dog is a rescue so we weren't sure on her breed, just knew that she looked like a yorkie. Was very interesting to find out more about her!
