a whole lot of examples - can be overwhelming needs a bit more editing and organization
The author has done an excellent and helpful job of advising future board members by telling them much of what they can face. Moyo is obviously very experienced and knows the many ins and outs of board work from high corporate strategy to mundane operations of board meetings. What becomes overwelming is that ms. Moyo felt the need to put in this book not only all the major examples she faced on her board career but many, many, many other examples of company and respective board changes. So at times the book feels like a collection of examples rather than getting to the point or even touching on the point. For example don't expect to find any real method about setting the company strategy in the chapter titled that way. There are many examples from many different companies since the 1500s one thrown at the reader after the other without real pause or saying what is the big lesson from such example. I think this book would benefit from a 2nd edition with more help from an editor to focus on less examples and more conclusions about such examples.

A thoughtful summer read
A thoughtful summer read for corporate stakeholders, and yes, activists too.Last night I finished How Boards Work and How They Can Work Better in a Chaotic World. Dr. Dambisa Moyo writes with candor. Board Directors are human beings, not infallible. My favorite section in Dambisa’s book is Chapter Four: Five Critical Issues No Board Should Ignore. Her de-globalization scenario assessment struck me as moving beyond a traditional way of thinking.Importantly, How Boards Work shines a light on the oversight risks Board Directors take and the uncertainty they face.
