Worked great... Splitting huge maple rounds.. the extra ridge helps push things apart.. some good whacks with the blunt side of a maul and a satisfying crack and rip once you punch in. Highly recommend!

The wedge splits logs well. The tabs near the top keep the wedge from getting stuck in greener wood and aids in splitting the log. The only negative is the paint when struck gives off an odd odor. That should diminish over time as the paint slowly comes off as the wedge is struck.

Good wedge. Not very sharp, so I use my circular saw to make a cut in the log, and then drive the wedge into the cut. This wedge alone won't be sufficient for most of tougher logs. I had logs where I hammered this wedge all the way in with a 12-pound sledgehammer, and the log still would not split, so it took multiple wedges and some help from chainsaw to finish the job. Don't expect a miracle. One thing that I DONOT LIKE is the blue paint on the wedge. For some of the toughest wood, after I split it with this wedge, the wood is all colored blue -- all those pain chemicals are bad for my catalytic converter fireplace.

This thing is awesome! Worth every penny on the harder stuff. I have found it easy to use and will get it started in a piece and let my kids finish it through. My 6 year old finds it easy to use and fun. It's heavy in a very good way. Splits easily and doesn't get stuck at the bottom without actually busting the round.

So this maybe should be a little wider at the top because there are moments I thought this was going to be stuck forever... but for the most part... this thing is amazing!!! I bought a Milwaukee 18V Hack Chainsaw which has just an 8" bar. I use the tool to create a slot to place the wedge which works perfectly with my old wedge. Even with the slot, I could not get the Estwing wedge to engage. It kept bounding out after every hit. The bottom width of the wedge is too wide. What the wedge is good for is as a second wedge on a larger 3' dia round, or after a wide split has started. So I give it 3 stars as a SECOND wedge to help open the split created by a different first wedge on larger rounds. Knowing Estwing, I'm sure the wedge is forged well.
