I had the 1/4" NPT ball valve thread break off deep in the thread of my air compressor tank drain port, and I was struggling to find a good way to remove it. My internal pipe wrenches only go down to 3/8 pipe size, and all the other threaded extractors at the local stores are little short stubby things that wouldn't reach down inside the threaded hole far enough. Well these popped up while searching for a solution, and for the price I couldn't resist giving them a try. I am very happy that I did, the exractor I used did the job beautifully. I used an adjustable wrench and cranked on the extractor, and it dug deep into the brass before finally overcoming the factory thread locker and rust to remove the broken off end of the valve. The chunk came out easily, and there was no damage to the threads in the tank aside from the damage done by the original valve when it broke off. These extractors just work, especially if the fitting is made of a softer metal like brass, bronze, copper, or cast iron. If you have a tough to remove fitting then these are exactly what you need.

Worked wonderfully. I needed it to fix my shower. A piece of the plastic remained glued in the pipe. Easier to just remove that piece of plastic than to remove the entire piece of pipe, right? Wrong. I found the proper size to fit and get the piece of glued plastic out. It would not stay put so I had to give it a little tap-tap-tap-a-roo just to get it started. Bad idea. It has been wedged in there ever since I bought this tool. It will not turn, it will not come back out so, it is a permanent fixture on my shower until I feel like removing the entire bathtub and repairing the shower. Screw that. I have another bathroom with shower. But the sucker works TOO great. I'm glad I bought it. It is good to have tools for the house. Once I get this removed, I'll put it back into its cool carrying case and be ready for the next time. Just don't tap it with a hammer to get it started.
