Happy with the purchase
These were installed on a 2000 Porsche Boxster. The installation is simple, but you will want to see if you can find a plastic wedge or some other implement to pry off the old struts. My struts had lost charge over the years and wouldn't hold the hood open in cold weather. The only downside to this replacement is that if you use a flat blade screwdriver to pry out the old struts (what I did) you run the risk of scratching the inside of the hood or the trunk/frunk. I replaced both front and rear at the same time and it took under 30 minutes for all of them. The review questionnaire asks about longevity, but I don't know that it's a fair question. Without having these installed for a couple of full 4 season years, I don't expect to be able to give longevity a rating.

They work! Good value
Compared to the OEM Porsche product and therefore the “Porsche tax”, these work and fit just the same for a fraction less. Probably come from the same production line.No fault of this product, but the retainer clip system Porsche decided was their best option to secure these to the hood hinge and frame is a terrible system. You have around a 50/50 shot of not damaging the thin tin retainer clip when removing it, and bending them back into shape never really works. Just take your time and be careful when replacing.

One only lasted 3 months
These parts seem like a commodity item. I installed mine in Jan. 2018 and by April this year one of them failed. My OEM units lasted 17 years. So I went back and got the units from Stabilus, the OEM supplier. For all I know, Boxi would have replaced the bad shock under warranty but the real question is, how can a shock fail in less than 3 months of light use? The quality control simply doesn't seem to be there.

Took maybe five minutes per side to swap.
Easy 5 minute swap. Wondering why I didn’t do it earlier. There are plenty of instructional videos online, but the short version is a small screwdriver is needed to pop off the retaining clip, and the new struts pop right on with new clips. If you look at the new strut you will see how the clip fits into place... if you rotate the strut on the ball joint slightly, the clip will lift just enough to get a small screwdriver in.A standard 5 gallon water bottle is just the right size to take the weight of the hood while you are performing the swap. Be careful & ensure you are supporting at the good reinforcement- not the thin sheet metal between the ribs... the hood is heavier than it looks any you might deform the metal.

Perfect fit for 996 or 986
After buying and returning 2 other struts, finally got a set that actually is the correct size and fits my 996. These are exact replacement for factory frunk struts. Easy to replace and work perfectly.I tried 2 others that aid they were the correct ones but were not. From a functional standpoint, there really is no difference other than size on all of the struts listed for sale
