Which side of a wobbly post do you attach this to when there is a slight lean to get it back to the vertical?

Ideal method as per instructions....straighten post ie vertical, fit post buddy to side and front fit top screws, check post is still vertical , fit all other screws (not supplied) note: top holes are slotted to allow for small amount of adjustment of post. Use 5 x 60 screws.

What diameter are the holes in the stakes?

I fixed mine with some no. 8 (4mm) decking screws I had handy but these weren't a tight fit. I'm confident no 10s (4.8mm) would be OK, perhaps even no 12s (5.5mm) but you need to consider the force required to drive a fatter screw into an already 'dodgy' post, whether this will further weaken the timber, whether you will need to drill pilot holes. My job with multiple no 8's is still holding firm after a year and several gales!
