“Brilliant” —The Sun (U.K.) Retired cops solve cold cases in this hit British series The old dogs of the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad are about to welcome a few new faces. But first, Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman, Sexy Beast) and her loyal team—Gerry Standing (Dennis Waterman, The Sweeney), Brian Lane (Alun Armstrong, Garrow’s Law), and Steve McAndrew (Denis Lawson, Bleak House)—will solve their final cases together, bringing justice to decades-old murders that stumped London’s Metropolitan Police. After Brian’s reckless behavior endangers his place on the team, brainy Danny Griffin (Nicholas Lyndhurst, Only Fools and Horses) steps in and rubs the rest of the squad the wrong way. Later, Sandra makes a choice that means a new boss for UCOS: feisty, fearless DCI Sasha Miller (Tamzin Outhwaite, EastEnders). The result is “a welcome new lease of life” (The Daily Telegraph, U.K.) for a show that has “plenty more tricks up its sleeve” (Western Daily Press, U.K.).

New Tricks Season 10
I love the UCOS team! Since the gentlemen of the show are my age, I can relate to references by their characters to their younger working days during the 70's and 80s in England. The writing and performance of the earlier seasons were very good. The actors were so convincing, I wanted them to be my friends, LOL. By 10, there were some changes in the cast, and the last 2 seasons were kind of walk-throughs by the newer actors. I don't think there was any sense of cameraderie as there was in the earlier seasons. Still some imaginative stories worthwhile to watch with some good historical flashbacks. This is a police-procedural kind of detective genre, which I prefer no matter how somebody died. Not interested in gore, or macabre stuff, just the logic and steadfastness of the detectives, and so the writers have kept it to a minimum, just enough to get the motivation. I wish I could purchase the earlier shows, but at least New Tricks is being streamed currently on Amazon Prime!

One less star because of Jerry
Miserable, complaining, boring boozing, and snide. I can't stand him. He never leaves the show, always drags everyone into his crap and he's jealous and petty and small minded. Brian was fun and quirky, that old guy was smart and made a maudlin sort of curmudgeon of his time there and even when they exchange blonds in the office there's a kind of team effort going on. Not Jerry he expects too much, wants it all now and just whines till my ears ache.

New Tricks, Season 10
I agree that the Brits seem to be able to produce well written shows that can make you laugh out loud one minute and then be tearing up at the sincere drama of the next minute. This is a unique and entertaining crime drama with good humor and great actors. I became a fan of Amanda Redman in spite of first seeing her in a terribly crap TV movie called "Suspicion". She was clearly working hard to make that script interesting and I knew an actress that determined must be good. Now that I'm seeing her in a decent show I am not in the least disappointed. She is great (and getting more beautiful with each year). She's completely believable as the tough policewoman in charge of this motley crew of men, and the guarded, reluctantly vulnerable woman sort of dating a younger man. The entire cast is superb. Alun Armstrong has never disappointed in anything I've ever seen him in and he is hysterical as the cop on multiple meds in this show. It's nice to see real looking people rather than bimbos & himbos. These are talented actors having a good time and creating something extremely entertaining. Great price and Watch this it is a great show. I have all the seasons.

Excellent series!!
My wife and I both enjoy this series. The script is intelligently written, the characters in the cast all have interesting personalities and come across as real people dealing with the problems that real people have to deal with. But there is just enough of the characters' personal lives and team interaction in the mix to become involved without taking away from the story line. The transitions of team members leaving and new ones coming on board has been handled seamlessly in that each time there has been a change you miss the departed character but immediately get caught up in learning about the new character. Sandra and Brian were both gone by the end of Season 10, both characters I really liked, but the new characters of Sasha and Danny immediately drew me in rather than leaving me with the feeling that I would not like the show as much as before. The show's dialogue is intelligent and witty and has enough comic relief to not get too dry, which my wife especially likes. Definitely deserving of a 5 Star rating.

Farewell
I waited a long time before watching these episodes because I feared how they would handle the departures of the next three characters. To my delightful surprise the show did a great job. The first four episodes involved Brian's departure and by episode three I was waiting for a disappointing conclusion, but that didn't happen. Episode four was terrific with an amusing and upbeat "Ester moment"!! Sandra's leaving was also handled well especially due to the very poignant scenes with Jack! KUDOS for that...excellent touch! I must admit that I feel very angry and betrayed when I watch a show for years and the characters that I enjoyed end sadly so I am extremely pleased that didn't happen here. I have to say I won't be watching the next series, as along with new characters the show also seems to have a new tone. The magic, energy, and amusement were gone replaced by another "CSI Clone"... my opinion. It was great fun for ten seasons though!

Will the series continue?
We all loved the cast of New Tricks and I was sad to see them leave, but understandable since the show has been on so long. That being said, I think we should see how Series 11 would appeal to all of us and give them a chance to set their own style. I do think that they could use a little humor but the new cast will have to set their own stamp before we can say yea or nay. I do agree that we weren't impressed with Molly, the new head of UCOS, but she may work out. I am certain the producers are looking at reviews to see how the new characters are accepted and if we aren't fond of them, there will probably be "retirements" or "transfers" CLOSED CAPTION My rating was based on the new cast and a wait and see if the new cast will be as good.

Funny and enjoyable series.
I liked this series. Crime and comedy well done. But, after watching all the series available, I was very disappointed to see I had to pay to see the rest. I miss watching it, but as a senior I can’t pay for the latest series.

Still all right, still OK
The formula remains the same, but it's like a comfortable old pair of shoes. The improbabilities are occasionally considerable (things are resolved just too easily at times), but the cast, both major and minor players, are invariably good and entertaining.Aha, the cast. We go in one end with 3/4 of the originals and come out the other with 1/4. I find the new guy not as thoroughly entertaining as Brian - let's face it, Alun Armstrong's Brian "Memory" Lane is a comic creation right up there with Philip Glenister's marvellous Gene Hunt, so how does one follow an act like that? - and the new boss is too new to really get a feel for how it'll all develop. Coming to the end of the road? Past its use-by date? Perhaps - certainly there's sometimes a feeling that the formula has been pretty well worked out, but somehow different and often ingenious ideas come up. The collapse of Yugoslavia? The heritage of WW2 Italy? Anyway, still entertaining.

Is change good
I must say that before I opened the the case I read the Synopsis on the back and immediately thought well I guess this is the last one I will buy. I then sat and watched the first 2 part episode in Gilbralta and enjoyed the scenery but not the story. Certainly not up to par with past episodes. Into the second disk I was being slowly drawn in by the new characters and getting more interested in the show with its drastic changes to cast. When Sandra finally left and the Sasha showed up I was hopeful having seen her on another show (nothing like this a light comedy). By the last show I was wanting more and look forward to Series 11. It will be another year long wait I am afraid. For the oldtimers who have watched from the beginning there is much to miss as it was fresh, lively and totally unexpected with plots that more often than not told a rich story not related to the actual crime itself. History and events interwoven with a crime. It strayed away from that toward the end but gave us more back story into each character. They were humanized to the extent we are now feeling real loss at their departure. I hope that the writers if they are from the past will go back and re-read/watch earlier episodes and try to match the concept. If new do the same. The new actors along with Gerry (Dennis Waterman) appear to have a lot of potential and seem to have good chemistry together and I look forward to seeing them reach their so far undeveloped talents. I find quite a few of the reviewers a little harsh for saying Gerry has lost some of his hi-jinx. It is TEN YEARS later. Unless he was an imbecile he certainly would have done some "growing-up" and I hope that future episodes will develop the new characters into the team the old ones were.

New Tricks BBC series 10 DVD
Well, I have watched all of the previous DVD series 1-9, so I had to take a look at 10, which I think is the last one in the series. It's all about retired Police Offices who have come out of retirement to form a unit called U.C.O.S which will try and solve ancient crimes that were never solved. The cast are very good and deliver all the right puns (slang) which would be typical of a team or group of people working close together in London. I must be honest and say you should start with number 1 series, which you can purchase now for a low price, and see if you like it.

A change is as good as a rest
Like everybody else who has enjoyed and watched from series 1, it was obvious that there was gradually becoming something stale about the series. The answer was, of course, to inject some new blood and younger characters as happens in any situation in life. Denis Lawson, a very good and impressive character actor, immediately fitted like a glove and formed a good ongoing relationship with Dennis Waterman. Then Nicholas Lyndhurst arrived who has also settled in well with his screen daughter. The difficult one was always going to be in replacing Amanda Redman. However like Lawson and Lyndhurst, Tazmin Outhwaite has also been a very good character actress and shame that we only saw her in the last two episodes and look forward to seeing her and the rest of the new team in series 11 -?

Quality Entertainment.
As the established dynamics change in the UCOS Team, it heads towards it's conclusion / fate. The replacement members (all truly great British Actors in their own right) manifest too fast to retain the essence/core of past episodes. Having said that it's still good entertainment - sorry to see it end.
