Squeezebox Radio Really Delivers
Squeezebox radio: Beautiful, uncomplicated, loaded with features, and fool proof. I accidentally read about internet radio products on Google and became interested in maybe trying one to see how well it performed according to some reviews I had read. Let me say upfront, I have tried several radios, before finding the Squeezebox family of internet wifi systems. My previous purchases before squeeze box were fair, the results not being exactly as I imagined. I was intrigued enough with the concept, that I went on another search, to find the perfect radio. My first purchase was the Squeezebox Boom. I loved it so much, I got another, and each one fills the rooms they are in with full, rich sound. They are very portable, and I can take them from room to room, but using them as a bedside table, while very much possible, was a little too big for my needs. The Squeezebox radio fills its promise to continue in the tradition of the Boom, but in a smaller, more compact model. Dont let the size fool you. It really delivers, and then some. It has every imaginable feature a person can want. It does need more presets, but it is very intuitive. For instance, saving a favorite is as easy as holding down 1 of the 6 preset buttons, and its done. The screen, even at night, is easy to navigate, and you can dim the color screen as much as you want, so that it does not keep you up at night. I love the way things are so very easy to navigate and find. Every thing is very well organized, music broken down into genres, stations broken down several different ways: genre and location. Internet radio is amazing in that you can find many stations with quality streams with high bit rates. You can find music, talk, and sports, as easily as breathing. Live in New York, but want to listen to your home town station in Madrid? . Do a search, enter your home town station call letters, and you are ready to go. It comes in crystal clear, as if you were back home again. This is sophisticated shortwave radio with none of the drawbacks.Setup: Simple. Pull it out of the box, plug it in, and it will find your wireless network. If you have a secured network, and you should have one, just be sure to enter the key correctly. That may take 3 minutes, tops. Once the key is entered, and entered correctly, there will be no problems, and in a matter of seconds, you will be listening to music from all over the world. If you have a decent internet connection, your radio will perform accordingly. If your connection is not that fast or stable, then of course, your reception will be affected. It does no good to give a review and give a poor reception rating when its the connection at fault, and not the radio. While I'm at it, I want to say that if you can read, and follow instructions, you will have no problems with this radio. Some people complain about the fact that there are no instructions with the radio. It comes with a nice booklet, explaining all the features, how to use them, and how to set up the radio. I am not a computer whiz, but even I hooked it up without even looking at instructions. I didn't have to. The radio screen tells you exactly what to do in a logical, step by step process.I love the fact that now I no longer have to be chained in front of the computer or in the same room to listen to music from all over the world, or as close as my hard drive. All can be accessed with the Squeezebox, and as other reviewers have noted, setting up a Squeezebox account and downloading the server software prior to your purchase, will make setup truly a 5 minute process. No more turning the clock forward or backward for daylight savings time. Your clock is always perfect in time, and I also have synchronized all my players so that I have the house filled with beautiful music, talk, or whatever I want, and its FREE. If you are a Sirius, Pandora, Lastfm, Slacker, or Rhapsody user, you can access your account by entering your user details on the walk through screen on the Squeezebox. There are still a few areas of the house that need that special something, and it will be a few more of these radios. For me, they have worked as advertised, and better, and are perfect for my use. I have no complaints with any of the Logitech wifi radios, am very happy with them, and will buy more.

The Little Radio That Could! ....Sometimes.....Sort Of.
UPDATE 6/27/11Although I still like the Squeezebox, I find that every second or third use it becomes befuddled in some way. Can't recognize the network, gets stuck somewhere and won't go back or forward, continues to play a song despite navigating away from that service, etc. My only fix is to disconnect and then reconnect the power cord. I wish it had an iPod dock rather than just connecting with a tether. I'd purchase the battery pack but these software bugs stop me cold. Why invest in something that may not improve? Darn it!This Squeezebox Radio is the "Jumbo Shrimp" of Internet radios. It does just about anything and everything you would want in a small and stylish package. I received it several days ago and I am constantly playing with it, turning it on, surfing audio services, surfing radio stations, listening to my iTunes library, carrying it from room to room as if it were a favorite child. So many options, so little time in a day!Pros:1) It is affordable, especially on Amazon2) It is a perfect size for a kitchen counter or bed side table: 5.1" x 8.7" x 5" deep, approx.3) It connects to the Internet with Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable, whichever you prefer. One could easily use the Logitech HD Powerline 200a Starter Kit for Logitech Revue & Internet-Connected Devices (930-000131) to connect it.4) Initial set up is extremely simple and fast.5) It provides almost limitless access to thousands of free Internet radio stations, and online services such as Pandora (my personal favorite), Slacker Radio, Napster, SIRIUS, Rhapsody, Lastfm, and social sharing sites such as Facebook and photo sharing site Flickr.6) It provides a connection to your MP3 or iTunes library on your computer (see Cons, below). To connect, one needs to download and install "Squeezebox Server" software from Logitech on one's computer and this software needs to be running in order to access the files.7) There is a 2.4" color LCD screen8) The color screen displays a clock and calendar! Take that you rotten AT&T Cordless phone!9) It is an alarm clock10) The sound is pretty good, all things considered.11) It is sleek and attractive looking.12) Software updates are automatic.13) This radio is totally mesmerizing!14) Did I mention that I love it?Cons:1) Power is supplied only by plugging it in to an electric wall outlet. An accessory kit with a battery pack and a remote control offered on Amazon costs almost as much as the radio itself!(Purchase it from Logitech directly for about fifty dollars) Having a battery pack would be an appreciated feature. This is a small and lightweight radio that can play music anywhere there is a Wi-Fi connection. It would be nice to be able to move it from room to room without having to plug and unplug it.2) Initial set up is one touch, but one needs to download software to one's computer to activate the "My Music" feature. The provided link to this software did not work, necessitating a call to Logitech Customer Service. The good news is that Customer service picked up after 10 minutes, was based in California, and provided a working link as well as some helpful setup hints.3) Most buttons are self explanatory but a few are not. The "More" button, for instance. Different functions are assigned to different buttons during different programs one might use. This is very confusing until one learns what to do.4) There is a quick set up guide that comes with the radio but I found that I had to go to the Squeezebox web site and print up the full 31 page "Feature Guide" in order to fully understand all of the radios outstanding features.5) There is no iPod dock. One connects one's MP3 player with a line-in cord (supplied).6) One would think that connecting one's iPod would be unnecessary as downloading the Squeezebox Server software allows access to the music files on your computer. However, if your iTunes library contains songs that are DRM (digital rights management)"protected" files (purchased from the iTunes store prior to 2009) they will not play on this radio. :-(In order to overcome this, Apple is happy to remove the DRM protection on these files, naturally for a fee. Since I have not done this, I find that only a percentage of my iTunes playlists will play on this radio when accessing them through Squeezebox Server. If I just plug my iPod in however, everything plays just fine.7) Registering and setting up the Squeezebox radio is easy but to access and use all the available services one needs to register and set up each one, one by one. This is time consuming and repetitive. Other reviewers have commented on this, but it is highly recommended to register and set up the services on one's computer and not the Squeezebox. This is a nifty, enjoyable music player. I plan to give it years of use. Hopefully it will.

Looks cool, works great, nice sound
This is a nice looking unit. The display screen is a bit small, but does the job. Sound is clear and you get a huge selection of stations. Works much better than having a radio and looks nice on a counter top. We've placed it in our kitchen and it replaces a much larger unit. Been using it for about a year now and no complaints.
